Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
At HMS Collingwood open day yesterday with nipper and the rest of the family, looking at flooding up soon and back to Pompey early August, apparently.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I do believe that when she finally floats out she'll be coming direct to Pompey, which has pleased nipper as he was not looking forward to transporting 4 years worth of his tat from Rosyth!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Looks like nippers stint on PWLS may be over sooner than his next draft officially starts, apparently they have 10 gunners on board with feck all for them to do. Let off early for good behaviour?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Rumours were the corridors between compartments on PWLS were enlarged for Commando deployments, unless nipper sneaks aboard QNLZ and dolly steps the width and reports the differences...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Happy to be proven wrong here but wouldn't she need to be out of dry dock and back down to Portsmouth for at least a few weeks before deploying in August? She is due out at sea for about 4 weeks, once she has left Rosyth, before heading back to Pompey. I very much doubt she will deploy this year, b...

https://www.navylookout.com/repairs-to-hms-prince-of-wales-will-not-prevent-return-to-operations-this-summer/ HMS Prince of Wales will return to Portsmouth in the next few months for some final maintenance work and the RN is confident she will be ready to begin her programme in August. Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Such a shame for Nipper (and everyone else on PoW)... Hope whatever he does in the future helps to make up for the massive disappointment. His next draft is based at Semaphore Tower in HMNB Portsmouth...in his own words Doing rounds of all the dead ships and helping out where needed in the Dockyard...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
There is a lot of truth in the article, certainly knew about the lift chains a while back. All phalanx gone, but then they would not be needed whilst in dry dock for a continued maintenance I guess. Not sure ship will be sailing soon for other issues with props and shafts, certainly nipper will be u...

Have you seen Victory at the moment, you need to be able to rip off rotten wood and then sit and stare whilst the chain of command decides if they are able to replace it or not!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Ok, not from nipper so feel ok to post here. 'Rumours' from the boatyard is that a step was missed on the alignment algorithms/formula for the prop shafts on PWLS prior to build, due to leave of a worker and when picked up it was missed. When the enter keyed was pressed, it didn't recognise a step h...

Largely losing stealth?? No, not at all. They will be designed to minimize their additional RCS as well as, errrr ... being droppable To be fair External Tanks are rarely dropped these days except in extremis. And even then the paperwork when you get back is going to be painful... I'm pretty sure t...
