JLTV is in production right now so costs are well understood. Exchange rates would be the biggest issue.
However isn't the elephant in the room the fact that the american vehicle is much better and comes in more variants and options?

Not sure pointing at FTI is a great answer to turning the Type 31 into a useful ASW asset. Won't the FTI's cost about $800 million each?

Re: Future ASW
what would it take for the A140 to become the fleet ASW escort ? Basically HMS, Captas4 and hull quieting. Could it be done for 400m ? The equipment & its install has fixed prices (well near enough), but hull quietening cost all depends on how quiet you want to go. I suppose the high end would ...

There is zero chance the Type 31's are delivered at 250m each.
Trivial pursuit: what was the last RN warship class to be delivered at original budget?
Doesn't mean the Type 31's are bad ships or should be cancelled but let's be real here.

"slipped slightly"????
A mere two years that all!
By the way, in one of the DSEI articles it was mentioned SJP's update on the NSS has been delivered some time ago but HMG were keeping it secret. Gosh I wonder why.

Pure speculation on my part that the money is earmarked for the frigate complex but I could think of worse ways to spend the money.

Thank you Xavier for the video. I was impressed by the speakers, most of all by the guy that explained the advantages of TACTICOS so clearly. On the subject of guns, I'd wager that there's a large number of RN folk that would like a 5". I can only assume that it is finance that's ruling that ou...

If Babcock do build a 'Frigate Factory'.... I was under the impression that the extra £250m in the T31 programme was partly to improve the infrastructure of the chosen yards to maximise efficiency of build. If so, where is the other £200m going? That 250 million is for updating MoD facilities for t...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
Perhaps BAE didn’t want the work and put in the bare minimum effort for their bid to be credible and create a competition (keeping the Govt happy). They have more than enough design and build work with T26 and they have already stated the profit margin on T31 was unattractive for them. Perhaps this...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
My objection to Babcock's bid has always been centered around the low probability of them completing the contract on time and money. Recent events have only lowered those odds. All three of their supply yards have gone bankrupt. But the MoD have significant history in giving contracts on the basis o...

Fergason (sp) went bankrupt because it was over a year late struggling to handle the technical difficulties building a couple of car ferries.
And it's going to build a frigate?
By the way, I couldn't find the newspaper story this morning.

That is totally wrong. The NSS called for more competition to keep prices down. SJP's solution to shipyards going out of business was to suggest large steel box makers (of which there are a few in the UK) with zero experience of marine building, could build blocks at inland sites to be shipped to a ...
