http://www.savetheroyalnavy.org/successful-flight-trials-period-vindicates-design-of-hms-queen-elizabeth/ A really nice article via Save the Royal Navy picking up on most of the recent posts but with a little more on the flight envelopes tested during the rotary wing trials. Amongst the positives re...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Just have to say, BZ to all the crew of QNLZ and her embarked forces! A hugely successful number of trials and training successfully completed: FOST activities, Rotary Wing flight trials for a range of aircraft, Amphibious Assault trials, RAS with a Tide class tanker & no doubt many more... Tot...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Not sure if this has been posted already. From the RN FB page. The first fixed wing fighter jet pilots have embarked in the Royal Navy’s new carrier as she prepares to receive the F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter later this year. “Rotary wing flying trials are progressing well and now also include night flying. All aspects of flying from our new ship are being tested and verified, from routines and procedures right down to the optimal brightness of lighting on the deck. #QNLZAtSea“ Would be great to see some images of the ni...

We expect the Daily Fail to get things badly wrong but I’d have expected the MOD to do better and actually have a picture of them on HMSQNLZ!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I take it the little lifts we can see on the hangar floor are to do with the HMWHS? I believe some at least, if not all, are for general stores, remember almost all stores will be loaded into the hangar using the lifts while alongside or during RAS. As for the HMWHS from previous posts they appear ...

Didn't even bother trying to watch it on the Beeb, streamed it from the RN FB page. Terrific ceremony. Great performance from the crew. Loved the cake. Noticed a few US personnel in the ship's crew (2 women in blue amongst the second last group to leave, USCG ? ) & at least 1 high ranking membe...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
The ski jump used for testing appears to have a shallower ramp than the QE carrier, does anyone know if it is the same? Have only UK pilots tested it or have the USMC had a go? If USMC are deployed on the QE will they use the ramp or only do VTOL? No, the ramps do not have the same profile. Plus th...

Incredible moment - and that's just for Serco Marine Services! ;) Bravo Zulu to all the men and women of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance and the crew of QNLZ! A proud day for the nation. Wish I could have been there but I'm already planning a trip down to Pompey shortly to have a harbour cruise aroun...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Just back from the harbour tour and adding some more.
If anyone has chance to make the tour in the next couple of weeks while she's in port it's really worth while, especially with all the Type 45s alongside at the moment.

A couple of pictures from my phone taken from the beach between Square and Round towers. Up close, and especially looking up at her as she passed the beach, she's incredibly impressive. I really like all the angles and how, due to the number and shape of the islands she looks almost a completely dif...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
She has cracked 29.2 knots at 12:30 UTC off the coast of the Isle of Wight. Wow! My guess would be she's till a long way from showing her actual top speed (and I doubt we'll ever see it) but that has to look really promising at this stage of trials even taking into account that she's not carrying a...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
What an awesome set of photos! I know we've still a wait till she's a fully operational carrier but what a pleasure to finally have a RN flat top that doesn't look pathetically small compared to the US flat top alongside. Many thanks to all at the ACA and RN who've brought us this far. And a glass t...
