Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

If the T83 (10 + years away) is not made capable of being fitted with appropriate potential weapons in development, then, should those weapons be developed to become operational within c. 20 years, all T83 would become obsolete. A life of <10-15 years for the T45 replacement would not be acceptable ...

Re: USA Armed Forces

Of at least equal importance would be a requirement to carry USV, for a (hopefully substantial) degree of ASW protection.

AND ………. 2 days travelling between Glasgow, Birkenhead and Rosyth, then returning to Glasgow again ? The ships will get built over time (OVERTIME). Bit questionable whether “Bob” will venture south to Birkenhead though, The Krankie One would probably prefer to insist that the work was done in the Fe...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

The recent “article” missed the most important point. Two x QEC (STOVL) Carriers. offer far more capability than One x CATOBAR Carrier, despite the writers assertions. Yes, I would have preferred CATOBAR for the QEC, but then I would also still prefer to have three of them. As others have written, w...

It is a shame that there will not be a (3rd QEC) Carrier alongside in Portsmouth for this occasion.

Re: The future form of the Army

What should be obsolete are “Non integrated” forces ! Specialisms are fine, but an Army must aim (and needs) to be greater than the sum of its component parts.

So it MAY WELL operate from a carrier, but it CAN operate from an LSD or any of the T45s or any of the “in-build” and planned T26s.

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Nothing I can disagree with, but if the MOD (and the contractors that it uses) are “not fit for purpose”, then major changes MUST be made. We need to find (and require those whose task it is to organise what is required) to find Solutions to the problems encountered and not to find reasons for not d...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Perhaps you would prefer a further reduction in escort numbers then, as a consequence of slowed, (or very much slowed) build and therefore much increased cost, rather than being able to choose your moment and best fit the strategic situation. T23 CANNOT go on for ever ….. even with the expensive (an...

Hi Donald,

No one was even suggesting a change to the (fixed) contract !

Batch 1 ??? Mk-41 and HMS to be fitted AFTER handover/acceptance/commissioning.
