Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Talk of rudder damage, and a coupling failure suggests the outer prop shaft detached from the inner shaft allowing the prop to move backwards until it came into contact with the starboard rudder. I'm just reading between the lines, but it was clear that she left Portsmouth on one shaft, having mis d...

I thought an increase in Beam would reduce speed. An increase in length to beam ratio would increase speed, given the same propulsion.

Hope this happens. With Japan on board, Tempest will literally take off, it will Bring huge trade knock ons and it means we don't need to involve anyone else.

Whatever the Final number, I hardly consider it to be an increase in view of the original intended number.
And we can't forget we've already lost one.
I would also like to see F35 as a Navy only asset. Just a shame we will never own enough to fill two carriers.

A good place to start would be to give the Red Arrows Tranche 1 Typhies. Get every one in the Air Asap, plenty of scope to get Pilots too. A fair few available who recently left to call upon. A quick fix to get sqd'n numbers up, ripe for future F35 or Tempest replacement. We can't get caught with ou...

I would like to see Monmouth sent for LIFEX. If we're serious about increased Hull numbers, this would help untill more New builds ramp up.

Yep, drumbeat is not a rude word. I would like to see a policy of starting a new ship every year. With a 25 yr life, this eventually gives a 25 ship Escort fleet. Saves wasting money on expensive LIFEX like refits. Giving higher ship availability, we could even get back to 4 Escort squadrons of 5 mi...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)
Just build another T26, but a one off GP Light, and paint her Dark blue with a nice Gold band down the side and a Red funnel. Obviously a T31 would be cheaper, but not really a UK design, so defeats the object. Plus the mission bay space would make a cracking conference venue.

Didn't Spot the typo, bloody auto correct.
Should have been 'Surface' fleet.
Anyway a reduction in surface fleet, while aspiring to a bigger fleet shows poor historic planning.
What do we have presently?
10 ish deployable ships, each with its own unique set of issues.
Shocking.

Some part of me thinks she can work more. Some part of me thinks she worked much longer than originally planned. Some part of me thinks can it be exported, with upgrades? https://twitter.com/sebh1981/status/1463144234484183042 I agree, but not to sell her, she should have completed refit and retain...

I wouldn't say they were knackered, passed their prime, but clearly still functional, as most Trafalgar's are decommissioned after a final deployment. I'm just suggesting they get hooked up to the mains for as long as safely possible, after that last cruise? Certainly the refuelled Vanguard's could ...

With plans to adopt Submarine derived Nuclear Reactors to provide power for the Grid, I have often wondered why retiring Subs couldn't be hooked up to the National Grid, until it was not practical to operate them. While 3MW is not going to save the planet, it would be a useful way to get every last ...

Mmmmm....
As PIP times get longer, I wonder what the actual bill will be.
Makes you think how much a complete new build and stretched aft section with MT30 power would have been.
Ships remaining in service till new bit built, then a quick cut and shut.
Job done.

Re: Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
The classification suggests a completely new ship. Up arming or re arranging the T31 would be more in line with the Whitby to Leander evolution. As such the Whitby T12 gave rise to the Leander T12I (improved). Same hull and machinery with internal layout and Superstructure rearranged to include a Fl...

And what about Dauntless? Last I heard was some awards being handed out to crew members, after they moved back on board, but very quiet since.
