Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
i worry about continueing the notion of making more understrength formations. two recognised negative trends in UK land formations in recent years: 1. pretend brigades - that don't have permanent and appropriately scaled CS/CSS. in the process of considering whether to add 3Cdo to that sorry list: &...

Re: Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
And there's the not insignificant problem of making the Type 31 meet the Type 32 requirements. That might cause such a design change it wouldn't be much different from designing a brand new warship. before we get too excited about continueing the T31 production run with an 'improved' version. ^this^

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
Global Britain may well be a slogan, and it may well be a slogan designed to cover a lack of (political) substance (within the government). But it was not merely a slogan. Global Britain is a recognition that that the centre of economic/political gravity has moved from europe to asia, and that euro...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
The LRGs would be a fantastic rapid response resource if HMG would get on and implement the FCF concept properly. Is that HMG's fault? Or some comnination of: 3Cdo > RN > JFHQ > MoD What is a properly implemented FCF concept? Do 3Cdo even know what this is, because I sure as hell do not!

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
One thing that is interesting to note is that Norway, Sweden and Finland all have a number of small fast boat and landing ship classes to allow fast / agile navigation of their various coastlines and lakes. To be effective in the Nordic geography the UK needs similar. that's because their problem [...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
i think it's worth noting that for all the talk here about the death of the LSN(N) mission in the high north, that there has been a sustained 3Cdo media campaign on twitter highlighing the deep and enduring links to Norway in recent months. You [might] argue that this is desperation, equally, you mi...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
Three properly resourced Littoral Strike Groups based in the U.K., Duqm and Australia backed up by two more modestly configured Littoral Response Groups based in Gibraltar and Singapore could form 2/3 of the light infantry component of any UKRED. No argument but the LRG(N) justification is in tatte...

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
So put it up for another vote, perhaps the people will vote differently after seeing the results. That's seems democratic to me. If Brexit wins again, then yeah. Move on. Sure. Who's asking for one? You're making lots of assertions: "Brexit has been an economic and political disaster that will...

Why not undo it. You have had this explained to you before, but: Why not? Because I do not believe that political (and economic) union within the EU can produce governance that is representative of, and accountable to, the british electorate. i.e. It will not be legitimate governance. Well, as long...

Re: SSN(R) Future Astute Replacement (2040s) (RN) [News Only]
think about it this way; the UK SSNR is already the 'export approved' submarine for US allies. vis-a-vis PWR3. Virginia Payload Module probably ok by 2050 too. the US SSNX is going to be too big, too manpower intensive, too expensive, and packed with too much sensitive technology. virginia has the s...

The XLUUV question is precisely why i am so keen on the inclusion of docks… The XLUUV trails and T32 has got me thoroughly confused! .... All things considered if these XLUUV become larger than 15m/20t then they are really outside of sensible limits for Frigate sized vessels. They really should be ...

The XLUUV question is precisely why i am so keen on the inclusion of docks for future amphibs - above and beyond their utility for 3Cdo. And dismissive of LCVP/davits. Too small for amphibious operations, and likely future XLUUV's too.
