Re: Martlet/Lightweight multirole missile

Will QE get this fitted to her 4 x 30mm mountings? Lower to zero priority, I'd say. If ANYTHING of the sort of nature this thing hits (FICs etc) gets that close to QE, then she's in the wrong place. The Autocannons are fine as they are for Counter-SBIED (is that a term?) ala USS Cole. She's no-wher...

Re: Type 23 Frigate (Duke Class) (RN) [News Only]

I remember with Sea Cat there was a flexible cover over the missile which was to be removed before launch, but we were told that if the missile was fired with the cover on it would go though it. I wonder if the same is true of the mushroom covers?

In terms of cost the use of StarStreak/LMM in the waist position and Sea Venom just forward of the funnel should not be expensive as they are both in the current inventory?

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

I believe a heavy weight SSM (such as Harpoon) is overkill for the OPV but putting StarStreak launchers at the beam mounts and mounting ship launched Sea Venom midships between the funnel and bridge would be very interesting? It would be like the Oman use of Sea Skua.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Chaps, what is EXLS ? A quad packed cold launch system to fit in Mk41 silos. It is seen by some as a way to improve on the "mushroom installation" of CAMM onto Type 26 & 31e. I believe that if you have a minimum load-out of CAMM then installing the cheapest launcher (per missile) is a...

Re: RFA Fort Victoria

An OPV would not be expected to survive in high threat areas. The ideas mentioned around here of OPV escorts are nonsense. Even bolting on Phalanx or CAMM will not hide the fundamental flaws in its ability to keep floating and keep moving if hit. It depends what it is hit by - a SSM hit absolutely ...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

Given the significantly improved sensor fit of the Batch 2s and a 30mm gum linked to a reasonable fire control system along wth the intention to forward deploy them, would it be reasonable to fit them with 4 (or 8) surface launched Sea Venoms. The would be similar to the Omani use of Sea Skua. It wo...

That is probably the airframe and integration of the electronics? I suspect there are seperate contracts for all the other bits supplied to Boeing for installation.

Why is the next SSN a not a reverse of the Valiant/Resolution fix. Just build Dreadnoughts without the vertical tubes? Or even leave one 4 tube vertical section to allow for VLS? If you want more SSNs the you could speed up the Dreadnought build program and build "Dreadnought" number 4 as ...
