Re: POLAND
So it’ll be seen once again as we know best and do the opposite of other nations. The opposite? We've been near the top of defence spending in NATO as a % of GDP and sum amount for decades. What has Poland been doing for the last 30 years? I am not saying that should be putting any or all increase ...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles
I think the anti ship missile is the supersonic one, the subsonic one is (apparently) a much larger land attack missile. Feels ambitious to have different ones - but what do I know! I thought the whole idea of the project was to make one missile that could do both land attack and anti ship to give ...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles
Why on earth subsonic ? I could understand to some degree not pushing for hypersonic but surely they should be be going for a decent supersonic speed since this missile will be expected to be in service well in to the 2050s.

Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]
Personally the T83 programme is a test of what the country wants the RN to be over the next 20-30 years. It it wishes to credibly and independently send a task force to take on and expect to defeat a Chinese or (to a lesser extent) Russian force, the T83 needs to be akin to a cruiser in all but nam...

Sure. But first Flight I wasn't launched until 2003 and commissioned in 2006. And last Flight I has been launched but not yet commissioned. First Flight II has nt even been launched yet. Understand your point but I doubt USN would join with RN- we would have to take theirs. So the first of class wo...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
There was a throwaway line from the DefSec in the recent defence select committee hearing, which I posted above, that mentioned the possibility of alignment with an ally for replacing the Albions, Bays and Argus: Come 2030, we may be working with another country to see if we can share a cycle of de...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
Creating a UK coast guard will only take money away from the RN reducing the number of hulls, impacting training and command opportunities and what’s more leave a gap where the current OPVs fulfil escort duties for foreign warships sailing through the EEZ and surveillance. I think it depends on wha...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
With the talk up thread around T32 and or MRSS being fixated around unmanned system would it be time to look at dusting off the old UXV concept for the T32s and pair them with a number of LPDs ? The reason I always come back to LPDs overs LPHs or LHDs is I just don’t see the RN wanting to put the po...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
The USMC have discontinued there interest in v-247. Why would such a capability need to operate of a frigate? They did but they have now reinstated the program. I’m not say it would be needed off a frigate but rather the V-247 with its size and vertical take off ability allows for such ie it doesn’...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
It is interesting but the V-247 offers a similar capability while being able to operate off any vessel that can operate a merlin At what cost? IMO the rate of attrition of these drones is going to be very high especially when used against a peer or near peer adversary. As such, the cost of each dro...

The Mission bay might be useful as RN develop UAV / USV / USuV. Which is why I hope they first replace the mushrooms with more modern VLS to make best use of that space. Looking at the 3 variants they should be able to fit up to 48 Mk41s in the forward section alone, if then mid ship mushrooms are ...

This is exactly the type of capability RN needs for the FCF and next generation Amphibious Ops IMO. I’m surprised RN aren’t actively involved in this program or something very similar. Clearly, keeping costs within reasonable limits is paramount. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/v-247-tiltroto...

Re: USA Armed Forces
USMC squadrons are not traditionally tasked with air defence but to provide ground support to the Marines engaged on the ground. Air defence comes for the USN's Carriers further off shore. What maximising the number of F-5s on one or more of their LHDs will do is increase the amount of support avai...
