Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Ah the good old "Jobs creation scheme", run and paid for by the MoD to make the Government look good to the voters in deprived areas like south Wales.

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

So we need platforms that can easily be deployed, both tube and rocket, to support the Wheeled platforms from the Heavy and Light BCTs as well as the Ranger Regiment and so on. Well that sort of pushes any tracked option way to the back with a wheeled platform at the front and towed, airmobile syste...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Fair point, but the Army is still going to have to find money the MoD hasn't got at present if it wants to complete the transformation it aspires to by 2030.

Cheers, that actually makes sense and I am surprised the Army actually got it right for once, or so it seem for now.

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Well we can either try to fix the issues with Ajax, though spending any additional money beyond the current contract value should be avoided, hence why I mentioned we would get less than originally contracted for. GD still gets the agreed contract value and we would end up with a smaller number of v...

Re: Jackal and Coyote MWMIK (Army)

Just been watching a video on the British Army's Jackal. It claims the variable height suspension system allow the Jackal to be carried internally in a Chinook. Surely not?

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

The Army already needs more money to achieve in 2030 what it aspires to as laid out in the Command Paper. What is currently under contract and/or is an active programme will not deliver the formations the Army wants or needs. All the Command Paper did was lay out a frame work and confirm that those ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Although I am not a fan of using the Carriers as LHAs, seeing HMS PoW with a full flight deck of Apaches, Chinooks, Merlins and both varieties of Wildcat would be good to see.

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

The K9 is by all accounts a very good piece of lit but do the Army want a new Artillery system that really can only operate with the Heavy BCTs. The support Train for these is going to be larger than that for the Challenger 3, especially regarding ammunition. Hardly what you need for easily deployab...

Re: FV430 Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Maybe some unmanned wing men equipped with autocannon and precision rockets would do the job. Prototypes of such tracked UGVs are already undergoing trial in the US with the US Army. Having these operating with both the Armour and Infantry in the Heavy and Light BCT, and being modular regarding thei...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

This is why the Ajax programme needs to be given a set time limit to either get the vehicle working to the MoD's specs or the contract is cancelled. The Mod and GD have the money in the contract to fund both this and production, though probably of a smaller number, but then again we do not need the ...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

At this rate the T-32 will replace the T-31 in the Royal Navy, so we could therefore sell them and maybe build eight T-32 to increase the fleet to twenty two and then build eight T-83 to bring it up to twenty four?.

Re: FV430 Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Probably because saying that means they will be seen to have cocked up the WCSP and had to cancel it and rely on Boxer instead. But this way they can say Warrior didn't fit the Army's future vision for war fighting and was therefore cancelled, with Boxer becoming the Army's main Infantry carrier but...

Well found this out regarding the KRONUS Radar system. It is built by Leonardo and is the successor to the EMPAR series of Radars. It is a family of state of the art AESA radars for use both on land and sea, and we all know Leonardo can build good radars. https://www.leonardocompany.com/en/news-and-...

Re: RBSL Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

The Idea of the L55 and the new Long Rod Penetrator APFSDS was to have a superior combo to the US Army's L44 and APFSDU pairing using tungsten rather than the more politically sensitive uranium. I mean no one else adopted DU Armour to the best of my knowledge.

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Why don't we borrow a few Fenneks form the Bundeswehr and trial them as a recce platform. Small, sneaky and with good sensors and then look to building a UK Boxer CRV, either with the Ajax or Warrior Turrets to keep LM in the game, or basically buy the same vehicle the Australian Army is buying with...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Aren't the Italian Navy putting CAMM-ER on some of their new light frigates, so installing the system on our vessels should not be that complicated unless there is no room for missiles this length integral to the ships design, regarding the T-26 and T-31. Maybe it is too late for the T-26 Batch one ...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

Given the option it must be better to carry out an emergency landing ashore rather then on the Carrier given the chance of damage to the latter. AS to why we will have to wait and see like everyone else unfortunately.

Like with so many of our platforms on land sea and air, the number we have means they can only be in one place at a time, which has to affect the planning of deployments etc.

Re: RBSL Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

I think it is safe to say that in my view the new ammo form the L55 will be superior to the CHARM APFSDU round and even more so the APFSDS one, given the higher velocity and length of the penetrator, without going into all the physics and stuff. What will be missed is the HESH, but a combination of ...
