Re: RBSL Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
Good article but again the timescales that have been stated seem to be overly long to me. Is this just to match yearly funding to a work schedule? IOC is seven years away! with FOC three years after that and then around ten years service life. Mind you I doubt we will be replacing them around 2040, ...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
Excess noise is secondary to the issues that seem to be affecting the suspension. That falls dead centre in GD's area of responsibility and they cannot dodge this. If the suspension is not doing its job then this affect the rest of the vehicle and those who have to operate it. I do wonder though if ...

Re: Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia (1954-1997) (ex RN)
Her Majesty had tears in her eyes when she left Britannia for the last time as she was very attached to the ship. But times have moved on and as pointed out the Royal Family do not want a new one, so the new ship seems to be just another means of transporting Ministers and VIP to go with the Special...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Well they had better improve the Radar so the T-31 can get as much warning of the approach of hostile forces as possible, so they can get the hell out of Dodge!

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
They need to tell GD to fix things within a set timeframe with their own funds, as no more cash will be coming from the MoD and the contract is at serious risk of being cancelled if they fail to do this. This has simply gone on for too long and tey cannot blame the MoD for imposing a weapon system o...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
That could depend on how the Boxers eventually equipped. IF they have greater firepower than the current .50 cal or 40mm AGL then a few could be sent to back up the more numerous MRV(P) platforms that would probably go first together with a few Jackals. But again we know so little about how the MRV(...

It is a very good idea, and enables the learning of the basics in a safer controlled environment. Now they just need to build a bigger one to simulate boarding another vessel, ideally larger than a fishing boat.

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
Well it appears more and more Commando Units are being re-equipped with the L119A1/A2 (Canadian C8 Carbine). Do we think the whole of the Royal Marines are gradually going to adopt this weapon instead of the L85A3, under the transformation they are under going?

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Knowing how things are usually screwed up somewhere during a programme, the T-32 could end up being a T-31 with its ability to handle unmanned platforms greatly improved. It is supposed to be a MCV Mothership, with these replacing the Sandowns and Hunts, after all rather then a true escort according...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
The future, if it can truly be called that , of the UK AFV industry is going to be BAE/Rheinmetall i my opinion. As I cannot see the Army actually taking delivery of all the Ajax planned, maybe just to two Regiments worth for the Deep Fires BCT and possible the two Recce Troops in the armoured Regim...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Well Sea Ceptors is known to have a limited surface to surface capability and it does give the T-31 a longer reach than just its guns, but having only twelve of them means the Captain will have to decide how to priorities which targets to use them on.

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
That maybe the way to do it and set up a joint management team with the Poles to co-ordinate future growth etc. WE could even build the turrets here but have the Poles assemble the whole vehicle which may save a few pennies, considering they are already set up for such work. So two Regiments of thes...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
I am still struggling to see how the Army's planned structure in the 2030s will be able to fight effectively against a Peer opponent. Before that we are simply not in a position to do so except as a mini roundabout or sacrificial lamb. Yes we will be fighting as part of NATO, but our contribution wi...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
The B2's are pretty good looking ships, especially Tamar in it "Dazzle", camouflage. But given their expanded role having them fitted with either the 40mm or 57mm earmarked for the T-31 on their next major overhaul would be welcome. The ability to use 3P ammo would greatly increase their e...

Maybe we should look at having a major Royal Naval Dockyard, partnered with industry that can do final assembly and fitting out. Civilian yards would tender for ship blocks but each order would on average be for five or six units to allow better and easier planning by said contractors and simpler pr...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
Well we could buy them from Australia instead, built to their specifications. However an interim buy to replace two AS-90 Regiments on a fast track rather than the planned AS-90 replacement programme IOC or 2028/9 would be a worthwhile option.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
With the E7 we may want to keep one airborne for longer than internal fuel allows, especially with only three in the fleet. The same goes for the P8s. At present when shipping stuff east with the C17 we have been lucky enough to have a refuelling station on Cyprus. If the urgency of a situation aris...
