Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

The knocking shops of Nicosia had a clap pandemic when we were there on ops. The MP's were crawling all over town trying to police it but didn't stop several cases in our unit. Good luck trying to stop an airborne contagion!

Re: RBSL Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

Aplique armour has some defects: Shearing strain means an non lethal hit can mal-align panels, needing an angle grinder anyway! This means you have to replace the whole lot. Aplique really doesn't like ERA. The shock wave will cause delamination. This has been seen in several conflicts and one of th...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

Without going into specifics (and exposing them), BAe has to plan for disruption to delivery schedule within the contract. MoD rules preclude production outwith the UK. As a result, they have to secure delivery of long lead items and ensure stability if the logistics train. Also, IP of warship and m...

BAe has now finished risk mitigation study of possible Indyref2. MoD will not allow non UK shipyard to build 'warships'. As a result options are now being prepared to move up to 800 jobs in design and advanced material research/manufacture to CL and Barrow. They are also now looking at an all Englan...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

I thought the reason they chose the CR2 was because the turret ring was wider and therefore easier to integrate the 130mm gun and autoloader.

Bloody crab air!!!! USMC all standing at ease, Brill -cream Boyz all lounging about. Hope they fly better than they look. Seriously, not a good advert. I hope the CPO applies a leather enema to those concerned (if that was the mob the Rasman would be fucking apoplectic even for us Ruperts).

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

That is so they can get in to the bar!!! Seriously though, This deployment really is historic. The USN now views the QE class as a peer for operations due to the density of 5 gen aircraft. They have a huge problem with deck availability due to usage, maintenance, issues with GRF class, and with the ...

Socially distanced beer with neighbour last night (across the garden fence- BrewDog of course). Batch 2 T26 WILL NOT be built on Clyde if a second referendum goes ahead. Moves to use Appledore for blocks and CL for weld-up and finish.

Re: U.K. UAV's/Drones

You have obviously never been roused by 'the star spangled banner' followed by 'playthatfunkymusic-white boy' on the pipes. Most unnerving to the uninitiated especially at 0520. Not sure how the cousins would counter-battery that. They did however play 'God Save the Queen' on a banjo on the last nig...

Ah, the porridge canons do get everywhere!! We took 2 pipers from RHF when we went out to Benning for the para-rescue course. Their reveile was 0530 with a bugle. Needless to say, we deployed the heavy artillery at 0520 and were up in PT gear to see the cousins stumbling out and cursing the instrume...

The UGL was really bought for FIBUA, light vehicles, and reducing the need to close trenches to post a grenade. That said, the blokes seem to love them and they are a lot of fun!!

Re: Section infantry weapons

The same as at platoon level. Your fire support team will have to establish a base of fire up to 25-50m behind your point section under effective enemy fire. Therefore you need overmatch of this metric and 50m. For the 7.62x39 this was 200m for AK47, 300 for AKM(S), and about 400 for the RPK. The AK...

an SF operation Wasn't that just a faint (a helicopter load) and the non-operation was to lead the Argies to expect Hercules-loads of troopers jumping out in the middle of their southern (navy) airbase, pinning down pretty much all their pro-like, and equipped to fight at night, bns of marines? The...

That was an SF operation. Certainly that does merit long range insertion capabilities but manageable due to its limited size and logistics footprint.

The French would have insisted they have the pretty bit on top. As a result they have combined the worst bits of both tanks!!! 130mm CR3 for me please and then lets have a serious look at what the US is doing for 15yrs time.
