Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
About CoE, I think that in most of countries finance/treasury departments have a very important role in running the government. But I have a question about Astute class subs. I wonder, if we compare them with say, Virginia class- Astutes have much more peculiar form of hull. While Virginia has clas...

Just a shame we didn't follow the commonwealth in the 90's and buy of the shelf the Piranah Having attended a repatriation parade for five Canadian soldiers killed by an IED in a Piranha in 2007. Have you been in, on or used any of those "shit UOR" vehicles? No, I understand they had there value, they we're available, and they saved lives, but I don't believe they are valuable beyond fighting in the desert. We should realize we we're unprepared, and should plan so we are properly ...

Re: Section infantry weapons
The BA's preferences keep shifting. They acquired the short-barrelled Minimi in Iraq as a short-range bullet-sprayer; close in, volume of fire matters. In the much longer ranges typical of Afghanistan, it was of little use and the L86A2 came back into favour as its long barrel squeezed the most out...

Yeah, bringing in Streetfighter kits. All 22 of them... Thing is, the Leclerc already has one of the best FCS around and C4I systems to match, it's been kept up to date. It's exceptionally good inside, probably only bested by the Leopard 2A7 and M1A2 SEPv2. Challenger is still using the same stuff ...

The French can't sustain Carrier Ops, as they only have one. We will have two in a couple of years. True, and that puts them in the number two spot. It's about making the most efficient use of what you have. There simply isn't the money to keep every piece of kit ready for day 1 of the war. And frankly it would be wasteful to do so. The problem is that the kit is not even stored away this day. Not in numbers / conditions sufficient to have them...

Ministers do stupid things and overrule the military all the time. Often they think they know best when they simply don't.
