Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

On the bright side - it gives POW the chance to shine & work up the air capability sooner than planned & at a gentle pace than next years planned 24 in 25 deployment, also, is not better to discouver these things on routine checks rather than at sea....

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I read the EU wanted to do something... but so many differing voices - so maybe wishful thinking that some EU may tag on to show solidarity - if this situation goes on longterm...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Concerning the T31 weapons fit - are they not getting the NSM from the T23 when they retire ? so instead of getting possible 8,16 or 32 mk 41 would it be better ( cheaper ) to fit ExLS for just CAMM, as they will be our tier 2 ships & save the high end FCASW stock for the T26 & tier1 ships ?

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

The Albions should have gone…. I don’t have an issue with the Albions going but they should be replaced with another vessel. My preference is for a £1bn LHA operating with the 2x CVFs in rotation using 2 crews. IMO it’s sensible and pragmatic providing one permanently available LHA or CVF 2/3 of th...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

If my memory not playing me false from what little i can remember of my structural engineering classes the size/thickness of the plating can add substantial strength to a structure. Modern warship "skin" is relatively thin which gives rise to the starved dog look. Its function is mostly t...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Since the rumor that ExLS maybe going on the T26's could that mean that when the T45's go in to get CAMM fitted from 2026, that they get ExLS launchers instead of the mushroom launchers ? or maybe a combo of 6 x ExLS ( quad packed CAMM giving 24 missiles ). & 8 x mk41 that could give more option...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Didn't they try that with the T22's & T42's ? but we have such a small RN now - would it work now ? maybe we could keep our ships not as long & stop faffing about with expensive LIFEX programs - & stop all this dilly dallying... Well that is what it says in the National Shipbuilding Str...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Yes it's good but Since they are polish tier 1 ships they would throw the best weopons & sensor fit they can, but being as the T31 will be the uk "keep the numbers up ships" a cheaper fit version aint to bad - not sure even mk41 are essential as long as they get a minimum of 24 CAMM (4...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Not sure about how a 4000t ship could replace a T 45 ...would that mean we have ship with a huge son of Sampson radar on it & basic self defence CIWS + a few CAMM, but with less electrical power & conected up to a few multi role T26 with lots of Aster 30 long range missiles & mk41 ?

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Wasn't Sampson proposed in a design for the QEC but rejected on cost grounds & i think they were concerned about making them a bigger electronic target aswell ? when the T45's retire & the QEC are the only ships with Sampson, i would be concered if it didnt work when needed.....with 2 AAW es...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Not convined the T83 will be much bigger than the 45 as that would mean a drop in hull numbers, as the mai mission is to protect the CSG... unless the can get cheaper ships awell to make up the numbers, 4 x T83 cruisers & 2 more T31 with CAMM - MR ? guess only time will tell....
