Re: JAPAN / 日本

Now the UK are getting closer to japan with GCAP ( fingers crossed ) i wonder what are the chances of getting a few "J-ASROC" to help fill our mk41 on the T26 & T31 just incase a merlin is not availiable or bad weather when it cant launch ? maybe drones can do the job sooner than expec...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Simple question. Why no hanger? It’s a good question and I’ve thought about it, but for the following reasons I’d say no: - Adding a hangar makes these ships more expensive to build and operate. Having duplicated support teams and kit each for a few helicopters doesn’t make sense. Refuelling capabi...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Very interesting. Simple question. Why no hanger? Every other navy in the world that is operating LPDs have a way of embarking helos. Why are you so keen to ensure RN is the only navy in the world to operate a class of LPDs without hangers? Are all the other nations wrong or is the UK unique in its...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Would a GCAP without the UK nowhow & less funding be what the UK needs ? would the timeframe match our Typhoon replacement with less funding ? Would that also mean our aircraft industry goes the way of Westland etc is that what is best for our long-term interests ? thinking about not investing i...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The Oz T26 AAW/ASW combi isn't going according to plan, but maybe the T26 extra hulls 9 onwards could have the ER CAMM as an interim measure until the T83 ? & since the T45 as yet are still low ish mileage it may be a good fit, then the B3 could concentrate on carrier protection & the b1 T26...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Perhaps transferring all F35b to the FAA would solve all of the problems…. [/quote]. Would love to see that, but, don't the RAF own all the F35, so the RN would have to get some more money for ownership, perhaps in the long run two squadrons & maintainers ( out of four ? ) could be transferred t...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

If all the T31 gets mk41 & NSM, making then a tier 2 frigate ? then 2-3 of these ( with a 57mm main gun, maybe drones instead of a wildcat ) could be a good oprtion for lower end patrols eg Falklands,Carribbean, Gibraltar/med for a cheap flag waving - maybe use the river b1 replacement budget, t...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Well if our RN T26 are coming at £1bn +/- depeding who you ask & whats included then adding things it was obvious they would cost more with a redesign... AB arnt cheaper for reason & how long have they been in production....so somethings got give ! i think they will still be doing well if th...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Good plan, get the first 2 in service soon as ( even with just guns - would probably only be for a year ) to help with the load, then from hull 3 put NSM missle on & 24 CAMM etc then when all in service & T26 start commisining, 2030? add mk41 to the first 3, bit like the QEC ge them up &...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Doubt they would cancel it !!?
would there be any fees as they basicaly just bought the design ? i can see them still building 5 or 6, then maybe 3 or 4 T31 ( & 3 for NZ ) if they go down that route.....

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Perhaps now the submarine AUKUS deal is more in focas they have decided the best way to hunt a sub is with a sub ? & with the "Hunters" getting increasingly more expensive they have decided to go down the tier 2 route much like RN as they still require the hull numbers...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Maybe they could revist the 30mm intergrated with LMM mount ? i think its more about detectinng these things ! if detected early eg 5nm then the 4-5 or 5" could happally defeat the threat

If it was done the otherway around they neigh sayers would say " why are we ordering XYZ when the RN have no carriers" then if all the logistic ships, planes etc were sorted they would say "the RN hasnt had carriers for 20yrs so why bother-it will cost to much" i agree its far fro...
