Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

And how many did Glasgow have at launch let me think no no one moment ho ya it was none. Really, is that the route you are going? We have ordered them for the type 26's and we now have Babcock saying "Type 31 frigates could get Mk 41 during future capability insertion periods"

This will depend on weather T-31 gets 8 - 16 -24 or 32 Mk-41 as it could then carry 32 - 64 -96 or 128 CAMM
Go to the type 31 thread and you will see how many Mk-41 launchers HMS Venturer will have at launch (spoiler none)

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The type 26's are as capable as T23 GP but we switched to the Type 31 because they were cheaper, no other reason, they may meet that criteria of a type 23 GP but that's a pleasant bonus. All the official render of the type 31 have 12 mushroom, when was the last time the compliment of missiles wasn't...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

My issue is that I do not see which of the priorities is the T31 actually addressing. The priority is not a GP ship, it’s to either to tackle sub surface threats or provide wide area / BMD defence. They were ordered to addressed the following priorities: Be Cheap. Keep our escort numbers at 19, so ...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

And there it is. This is the bit where everyone says we install them after, that we will take our brand new warship off line for another 12 months rip out the current CAMM launchers to get the MK41 installed after its built (Pissing away god knows how much money in the process) That said it is refre...

Speaking of PIP. https://twitter.com/NavyLookout/status/1756276062386897195 With the way all the upgrades planned for the type 45's, you get the feeling at the end of the PIP we will have 6 different ships, some with only the PIP, some with Sea Cepter, some with ASTER 30 Block 1 and knowing us some ...

If the portsmouth news is correct during her ongoing refit, so this should include the PIP upgrade and the addition of 24 CAMM launchers.

It was reported on January 2023 that HMS Daring completes its PIP, hence why I was asking what was going on with her, just seemed to be a bit quite :eh:

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

say their dispute with the MoD over costs for Type 31 Frigate programme has been resolved. (Details subject to NDA) The is a bit worrying, the main benefit of the program is that we were getting 5 ships for 1.25 billion, if the costs are going to creep up how can you keep the costs under NDA? We ar...

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]

From the above shot it looks like she fired 10 missiles at a minimum, that 20% of her payload in about 3 months off the coast. My mind is wondering how this will play into things going forward. How many targets could CAMM have neutralised if it had of been fitted, saving the Aster? Unknown ...

Battle damage might be a bit ott but it is a very potent picture of the the results of battle and the work she has been doing. The sort of work we are not used to seeing. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GFzdHhoW4AAdW34?format=png&name=small From the above shot it looks like she fired 10 missiles at ...

So going back to the 138 number (press x for doubt), I wonder if this is connected to Lockheed Martin saying how good the F-35 was for the UK?

Seen this in the Navy look out article. https://www.navylookout.com/what-is-the-state-of-royal-navy-land-attack-missile-capability/ There is also very high global demand for Tomahawks right now and the UK would be in the queue with Japan, Netherlands & Australia. We think about converting the sh...

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]

Putting the MK41 on the Type 45 is something that will add to the list of everything else that needs to done to them, once these upgrades are done they will be going out of service. If you want MK41 land attack capability speed up the Type 26's. NSM not have a land attack ability? I strongly suspec...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Whilst a 3rd CVF may be unobtainable, another F35 capable flattop is essential IMO. As soon as QE has a major refit the lack of a 3rd flattop will become obvious to all. It’s strategically unsustainable but no one in the MoD appears to have the courage to admit that at the moment. This is poor deci...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Agreed that RN T31 (as is) is NOT getting Mk41 VLS. BAE Systems gave Lockheed Martin the contract to equip the Type 26's in March 2018, 4 years before the ships even launched. We have seen no additional foreign military sales requests and no contracts to LM for more Mk41, HMS Venturer is to be laun...
