Re: Italian Armed Forces
A question, would M-345 be so much cheaper than M-346 so that Italian Air Force will have two pretty similar aircrafts in service? I think yes. I think these two is NOT pretty similar. M-345 is designed to be as cheap as a turbo flop trainer (not sure if it was successful). The original S211 was de...

First Leonardo M-345 HET production aircraft performs its maiden flight : Starting as a private venture as S.211, and now evolved and becoming the MB339 replacement. Interesting. Also impressive is its "low-level" capability, to be coupled with M-346 Master as high-level one. Interesting ...

Re: Italian Armed Forces
But as has been pointed out the Italian Air Force will operate half of the F-35Bs and these are not to be usually operated off the Carrier. Yeah you are right in fact many people thinks that it will be used by navy pilots that has trained in landing aircrafts on ships when/if not enough F35B from t...

Re: Italian Armed Forces
Only half the F-35Bs are going to be in Italian Naval colours. I am not sure of the plans the Italians have for their Air Force, but the replacement of the Tornados seems the most likely one, complimenting the Typhoons. The F-35B will be operated by the same airbase for both the Airforce and Navy s...

even accepted into service before the UK's T-26! Add salt to injury - and designate them as cruisers? I thinks it’s more due to it’s displacement, superior to the Ticonderoga class Cruisers and with the capability of deep strike (something that no Italian Destroyer is capable of except for the grou...

About the satellites, which one is the joint Franco-Italian, the one that the French DefSec just complained about the Russian hacking attempts? And which one is the one that the Finns have bought a time-share in, errr, to keep track of forest fires that might spill over the border? The only one tha...

Re: Italian Armed Forces
I am not sure that full figures are in the public domain but I am pretty certain it doesn't equal one third of the Defence Budget. From what I can find the annual support costs for the UK's CASD are at most only 6% of the Budget so less than $4Bn per annum. Mind you we don't onw the Trident Missile...

The change in type of unit, from 16 PPA to 7 PPA + 8/10 PPX , is probably due to the change in strategic vision in progress, less focused on the " enlarged Mediterranean " (from the Gulf of Guinea to the Indian Ocean), so PPAs were born, and more focused on the Mediterranean Sea , from wh...

Now, PPX are planned for 8/10 units to replace the 3 PPA not funded, together with the others 6 PPA not yet authorized by Parliament. PPX will replace (between 2027/mid '30) Cassiopea, Comandanti...
