Re: Air Command to 2030

As mentioned elsewhere, AIM-120D is an unexpected and excellent surprise to see the F-35B will be using in the meantime. The 'D' variant is a very good upgrade, with a very good range and two-way datalink connectivity. Meteor may be more appreciated for the RAF in the long term, but the AIM-120D is...

Re: AS-90 Self-Propelled Gun (Army)

Of all three services the Army has suffered by far the most with chaotic programmes to procure new AFVs This and Watchkeeper are exactly the reason why nobody wants to give them even more money. They have managed to waste fantastic amounts for very little returns, often literally zero. And when the...

Re: Royal Marines

Well if you accept that a marine battalion ( if even that ) is now the maximum of UK amphibious capability, then yes... Time to stop looking at the olden glory days. The new structure is fit for purpose. Before the change, we had one battalion doing standing tasks, one training and one operational....

https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/armed-forces-pay-review-body Finally out, 2% plus 0.9% bonus. The report doesn't make for great reading. In particular have a look at the report on the attitude survey, some scores such as morale have never been lower . Gee, I wonder why? Who would have e...

Don't agree. What you need is supports for additional two brigades- 7th and 51st, not SIG and 11th Brigade.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I wonder, what could be done for 8 Type 26 with 1,25 bln. pounds? That's about 1,6 bln. USD. Buy ASMs and ASROCs? Say 10-12 NSMs per ship, and 2 mil. USD per missile, that's 200 mil. USD total. Also 10-12 ASROCs per ship, say 3 mil. USD per missile, that's 300 mil. USD. Adding CEC for 14 escorts, s...

Re: Mid-term review for the Strategic review?

Why would we need more than two? We currently have over two thirds of our infantry in "Light" role battalions that have little or no war fighting capabilities. These formations were fine when we ere garrisoning the Empire, but now they are a drain on resources especially has personnel cos...

Re: Mid-term review for the Strategic review?

I would go even further and drop things down to a maximum of two "Light" role Brigades but convert them to Motorised using the 6x6 variant of the planned MRV(P), in the same way the French currently use the VAB. That would give us six Brigades plus the RM. up to 50% of the Motorised units...

As usual the so called Defence expert at he Daily Mail got his facts messed up, but the story is important. We are paying way over the odds for he Voyagers, and are limited in what we can and cannot do with them. What the RAAF got was a far better platform for less money. We couldn't even fit cargo...

Nice plans Lord Jim. What would I like to see is transformation of 7 infantry brigades without enablers into say 3-4 light brigades with enablers. That should be the first step IMHO.
