That is a possibility but Scotland doesn't want Trident and never did.Qwerty wrote:Faslane would become a Sovereign Base Area.

Re: Brexit - The UK's EU Referendum & Withdrawal
Scotland losing Trident doesn't bother me. Devonport is the only other nuclear licenced base in the country so would ensure my job right up until retirement. What to do with the toys at Coulport may be a bit more tricky though, no DM site in England has or would be likely to gain the licence. Sent f...

The Americans are a bit twitchy about security of their kit for some strange reason.
RM would normally escort SSBN to and from Faslane but obviously not secure enough for USN.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
The rules are tight mainly because of the likelyhood of misuse and a waste of funds for fuel not used for duty travel. All my driving has to be signed off by a line manager. We even mave POT codes for various usage requirements that have to be entered on the VUR sheets. Every vehicle has to be 'firs...

Re: Hunt promises "25% increase in Defence Budget"!!
Please leave off any criticism of the Civil Service Pension Scheme. Yes the Senior Civil Service are over paid and have ridiculous pensions but you r average Civil Servant works for less than the average wage and usually is doing the job that used to be done by someone at least one pay grade higher...

Re: Hunt promises "25% increase in Defence Budget"!!
MoD pay is no joke. I'm a non-industrial Civil Servant and at my level the pay would be pretty meagre if not for shift allowance, weekend pay and a flexible rostering allowance. This basically boosts my wages by 40% which sounds a lot but in real world terms basically makes up for me working nights...

Re: Typhoon scrambled to escort passenger jet
They are not unarmed. Indeed. They never go on QRA unarmed. I know people would baulk at the thought of an airliner being shot down but consider the loss of a hundred or so on the jet over an uninhabited ares compared to the potential of thousands on the ground if it hit a city. 9/11 changed the wh...

They'll just cut my MoD pay by 25% to cover it I have a better idea cull 25% of our self serving M.P.s , slash the house of lords. Pass a law capping the numbers. That with there staff and pensions should free up some funds. On the positive side the public would approve. There again they wont do wh...

Re: Section infantry weapons
Used the LMG version of a Bren on ranges many years back when I was an Air Cadet (early 80's) and for a very short period when I went into the RAF (only about 6 months or so) when on armed gate stag. Loved the weapon although by then it was seriously old kit. Extremely accurate and fun to shoot. Sti...

Re: HMNB Devonport (RN)
Over the last few years parts of South Yard have indeed been shelved off. The old Granby area has been given over to private housing schemes and Oceangate comercial units, the Heritage site and CIWS maintenance area are now enclaves, roperies and Mutton Cove areas are mow under control of Princess Y...

Re: Section infantry weapons
The LSW was never an effective squad weapon for fire teams. The whole idea of a support weapon is to keep the targets' heads down whilst the troops move forward, having a light calibre weapon with an in-built 30 round stoppage was never going to fling enough lead to make them keep their heads down p...
