Re: Future Royal Fleet Auxiliary
How would you like to see the figures presented to make them easier to understand? One idea would to make it relate to outcomes - e.g. x% of the escort fleet, y% of helicopters are crewed etc. I know it dumbing it down and but as we all know a shortage of even one specialist role means a ship canno...

A fundamental issue is to too many tasks too many deployments, wanting to be everywhere. A lack of focus and priorities of what is important. The use it or lose it mantra often promoted incorrectly or to coin the new phrase constant engagement. Not many are gonna choose work over family especially ...

Re: Future Royal Fleet Auxiliary
I don't think that's the case, statistics are produced and placed online regularly. Afprb covers those trades that are under the most strain quite often. Yes, but they are very detailed and too much for a lay person or most MPs to understand. If the MoD / DoS started to talk about these things more...

Re: Future Royal Fleet Auxiliary
I think people find manning issues boring or difficult to understand (or both) in comparison to equipment. They could crew one (at least until all three FSS arrive) by giving Proteus and Stirling Castle to the RN where they belong. The navy probably can't crew those anyway. Its 6 or two threes. The...

Following on from another thread, if people find manning issues confusing/difficult to follow what would you like to see to make it easier to understand?
If you find it boring, which part of it do you find boring?

I suspect the slowdown is quite useful in some ways, it's not like they can be used much.

That's more for the type of training rather than numbers. He gives a good explanation as to why buying more aircraft isn't always particularly useful. The example he gave about F35 is insightful in this regard. No its all about the numbers if you have so few aircraft and associated spares, crew etc...

If you want to more about why we don't deploy xyz more often it's in here. J Bronk must have his ear very close to the ground.

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
It's easy to be down about and wonder if it'll come crashing down, however we may just bump along the bottom. It may need things like rengagment bonuses to be brought back. Specialist pay brought in or increased. A complete fresh look at housing etc. I think the first step is to be realistic, althou...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
I noticed on here another part of the MoD is struggling with retention. There was a review into this https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/announcement-of-chair-the-haythornthwaite-review-of-armed-forces-incentivisation However it still has been published, I wonder if it's been kicked into the long...

Re: New Medium Helicopter [NMH] - (RAF & AAC)
I simply don't buy into the view of UK manufacturing draws expenditure back into UK coffers, (it might do), but those coffers are separate from the MOD budget, so your defence budget buys you less and less and the military continue to contract in an ever decreasing death spiral.... If the MoD budge...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
No, I don't see any political will to change much. There's gaps all over, in manning, people are leaving faster than they can be recruited and trained. Some promotion boards are running really high as many leave or turn it down. Often one of the main limitations on deployment. Mentioned often on her...

Always with the negative waves Moriarty. Just think beautiful positive thoughts and those new helicopters crews and spares will be there baby Remember it is this government that wants a global force and if that is what they want they have to pay for it I don't think the government wants a global fo...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
Pay restoration has been a theme for public sector unions this year, anyway someone has done the numbers for the MoD.
