Re: RFA Fort Victoria
No one would dream of sending Fort Vic off to the Indo- Pacific until the first 2 SSS are in service but once the first 2 SSS are in service then giving fort Vic 1 last refit and sending her off EoS as part of that group would be a good thing What we are seeing from our allies in the Indo-Pacific i...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I think it's crucial to integrate Aster into Mk.41. I doubt that the French will allow this and if they did , it would come with an eye watering bill. And I'm not sure the T26 is up to a full PAAMs integration which would be needed. Not sure for both of your point. 1. If France want to sell more As...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
Does anyone know whether the Valour will have a pressurised cabin or its intended service ceiling? I have seen mention of 6,000 feet but that surely cannot be right as the maximum and I suspect instead relates to a range / speed requirement when operating at that altitude? I ask because if it has a...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
The Japanese class of ASW Destroyers are slightly smaller I believe, albeit capable ships. Designated Destroyers from the start. But yes blurred lines, it would have been good to have 14 Destroyers again though, Inc T45. In my mind they're Destroyers. While the lines have blurred between classes I ...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
I’m sure they do, if I remember right part of the design requirements was for it to fit in the hanger of a AB destroyer.
The V-247 which is based of the V-280 has a fold and turn roter abd wing design like Ospray.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
The Canadians and Australians have very effective and high end aaw capabilities on there type 26 variants so it can be done Do you mean as good as replacing T45? I donot think so. Why do u not think so? Radar capability is not in the same league, as I understand, and as such associated analysis cap...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Or develop a new AAW radar and upper works to fit on type 26 hull form remove the mission bay and add VLS's to give 80 and set a price of 900 million and move straight from type 26 No-8 to type 47 No-1 Basically iterating the design then, Samson radar atop a new mast, a 57mm gun up front instead of...

Re: Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
IMO the likelihood of the T32 programme being scrapped just went through the roof. A mix of additional T26 and T31 looks like the most sensible way to proceed if HMG are really serious about growing escort numbers. Or the more likely out come IMO HMG just see escort numbers stay the same or shrink ...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship
Good thing over for the RN and UK ship building but got to say that is one ugly design IMO  Certainly nowhere near as good as the earlier MARS concepts. But this will certainly make life a lot easier for the RFA in terms of manning, training and maintainability. The general layout seems to be ...

BAE did say they could of built 9 for the same cost if HMG had ordered all st once, you then have the sow build which I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s more to do with HMG again than BAE

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)
Perhaps not a River design, but there is definitely legs in a MHPC class to be built in numbers to ultimately take on the UK and Global Patrol roles also from the B1/B2s. A class of @12 should do it. A modern version of the Black Swan concept, something around 105m by 16m wildcat capable hanger and...

Wallace has already been told he’s not getting three percent or any other commitment for that matter other than “a pledge to do my utmost to keep the country safe”, he hasn’t walked. Re: Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
As T32 is not funded yet and Treasury are looking for cuts the BAE proposal would be an easy way of kicking it into the long grass. More time needed for studies etc turn it into a low cost research project and push it to the right. Maybe a couple of export T31s for NZ come along to keep Rosyth tick...

The only hope I have left of no cuts and maybe slip chance if an increase is because the power that Ben Wallace now holds with in the party and his stance on defence increases.

For me, if we want a greater density as well as increased numbers of Sea Ceptor on our Escorts, then the ExLS system in both its stand alone and Mk41 VLS insert could be seen as the way forward. The Mk41 VLS in theory gives our vessels greater flexibility in the future whilst the stand alone versio...

"2.5 per cent by 2026, 3 per cent by 2030" sounds brilliant. BUT there is a General Election due at latest in 2024 (and relaistically Liz Truss will wnt as long as possible to set the tone of hr premiership to differentiate herself from Boris). My point was that Truss and Wallace might re...

Agreed, we can easily do this as a 50/50 UK Japan venture. I guess it’s up to the incoming Italian government, they’re very dependent on Russian gas, this winter will be a test case Completely agree but they also seem be very anti EU, but we really should be pushing to have Japan a full member of t...

I wouldn’t want the US anywhere near Tempest for multiple reasons - They’ll likely take control if this becomes a joint project put our priorities second to theirs. Tech transfer has often seen us give more than we get. If US tech is used in Tempesr that could give them veto on any exports they don’...
