Re: FV430 Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Why not follow the US route & convert the binned Warriors. Aren't the yanks looking to do the sane with old Bradley's. Convert/rebuild them minus the turret to replace M113s. Or have they shelved that project ?

Or as I said above buy more Vikings. Always had a soft spot for them for some reason.

Mate of mine working on them at Lossie still insists they're ideally looking for at least 3 more.

Re: FV430 Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Fantastic opportunity to be a bit sneaky. Order CV90 (as they should always have done then do a swap) That way they get Boxer & CV90. Or I guess more Boxer & streamline the whole fleet. Do they do a shorter wheelbase 6x6 or are they all 8 wheelers? Edit.. number 2. How's about using the Viki...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

Thinking about Lord Jims hypothetical T45 refit. Hows about:- 1. smaller 57mm gun up front as on T31. 2. Mk41 launcher in front of current set up where i believe it was always intended fitted with SM-8 & Asroc. 3. Full load of Aster30 in the current silo. 4. Ditch the hanger as Jim suggested. If...

What are they going to do with 169 light/medium choppers though ? Thats a huge amount. Are these replacing the NH90?

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

A type 45 as described by Lord Jim would be a nasty dedicated carrier escort, losing the Wildcat wouldnt be much of an issue given the air assets on the carrier. Fabulous idea but it'll never happen.

What exactly is the issue with the Panther? They're still being used by the Italians, Austrians, Spanish, Brazilians & even the Russians. Seen video of Italians using them in combat in Afghanistan & Spanish in Mali.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

If we need more AAW vessels & we get a reduced number of T83 the obvious answer is a second batch of T31 at a proper spec similar to the "full fat" Iver Huitfeldts. Either as T31b2 or as the T32.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Just a thought. A number of folk commenting on the need for more air defence & BMD. What if the T32 was to be straight up UK spec Iver Huitfeldt AD frigate? As opposed to the watered down GP T31.

It was going to happen eventually. Such a complex aircraft as that with the flight tempo they've had. At least the pilot is safe.

Re: Puma Helicopter (RAF)

He maybe Leonardo's Test Pilot, but his descriptions of the AW149 shows it to be a very impressive platform, probably ticking all the boxes we have and then some. We just need to give them all to the AAC and leave the RAF with the Chinooks. Agreed on both points. I reckon it'll be between this &...

Would agree, but what the RAF probably needs is a couple of squadrons of medium bombers - bring back the Vulcan :P If only there was a Western medium bomber with five units in production. This cropped up on my newsfeed this afternoon. A bit off topic as no longer in RAF/RN service but thought folk might find it interesting. I'd never heard if them. Heli Ops, using old RAF/RN Seakings to train the German navy amongst others. https://verticalmag.com/features/the-super-sea-kings-of-uk-b...
