Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

Remember that initial costs (and therefore build costs) have been “capped”, so such changes would have to occur “post build”.

Well what does he expect when after being elected last time, within months (if not weeks) he penalised many of the people who voted for him (Yellow Jerseys/Jackets). Everything to do with France’s international relations at present is being played for how it affects one Presidential candidates credi...

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)

We are told that Barrow cannot build at more than the current rate, because of Reactor supply timescales. If more Reactors are going to be required for both UK and AUS boats, then perhaps the AUKUS opportunity may provide the possibility of expanded and/or doubled Reactor Production line(s), such th...

Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]

Well strictly speaking there are only 3 x (Current Naval Port) Counties, Devonshire, Hampshire Argyll & Bute. But I suppose that we could include former Naval Port Counties in line with recent precedent to increase the names available to match the number of T83s. The addition of Cornwall, Dorset...

Better give her an escort group befitting her status then; 2 x T45, 2 xT23 and an SSN ! Ooops, someone forgot to factor in that she might need her own escort(s) when travelling “alone”. “Lack of Replenishment Ships AND Escorts”.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Repulse I agree with your use of the word “will”. It is the lack of political will that limits what we are able to do (and afford). I agree with your idea of 3 x CSGs and number of peacetime/wartime escorts. What I would like to see in addition, is 4 x “Atlantic” Frigates (which could also encompas...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Well you will need quite a few more Destroyers & Frigates to achieve (and sustain) that third CSG along with additional afloat replenishment & support vessels. When you have also got the SSN numbers up to something like they should be, you will still be in need of more Frigates. We also need...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

We should not have had to start from Scratch ! We should still have had Sea Harrier FA2 (FAA) in service and operating from QEC until sufficient F35B could be embarked . Keeping the FA2 for longer still as a fallback until F35B numbers had sufficiently increased. Another example of strategic ineptit...
