Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
I just watched the Forces News coverage of the Lightning landings and they spoke to Guto Bebb, a defence minister, who still very much said that the question of what variant to buy after the first 48 remains to be decided.. utter stupidity if they decide to go to As at this point EDIT: I’ve just see...

https://twitter.com/geoff_searle/status/1003917910182649857?s=21 They got a tour of the yard and saw the progress being made on keel units of Glasgow.. more importantly though, still no news of the SEA5000 winner, but apparently the decision has been made. I saw a tweet on May 31st saying the public...

The one with the covers on her VLS is indeed Daring, she’s currently laid up as a training ship.. this is what happens when there’s a lack of manpowerDigger22 wrote: A couple of T45 were in the inner Basin, we were told one was Daring, and she has a lot of covers over her VLS.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
I’d be interested to find out what the flying schedule of these four aircraft will be. I was under the impression that the vast bulk of 617 was still state side, I know more than four pilots came over but even so how much flying can you really get done with only four aircraft? Since a lot of the tra...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
I suspect that SRVL will turn out to be the default technique both on land and at sea (at least on the QEs), with vertical landings only being used if their is a specific reason to do so. I could be wrong of course , we will have to wait and see. I recall Pete Wilson saying in an interview that SRV...

RAF has said F-35s won’t be coming over today due to weather over the Atlantic, they’ll assess the weather tomorrow

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I know I'm going to be shot down in flames for saying this, but how hard can it be? We are told its mostly computer aided anyway and its a rather large deck. <takes cover> Still quite risky though. Helicopters that have been in service for years is one thing but not a brand new aircraft. Plus there...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Jesus wept! We've not had one single fixed wing trial on-board QNLZ yet, but some idiot at the Daily Fail believes that we're going to have her sail out into Portsmouth and then land a F35 just to keep someone happy. Give me strength ......... A few other news places seem to have picked up on it bu...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
So the 9 CIWS from the three Invincible class carriers and all the others from the Type 42's just mysteriously vanished?! Sounds like another Daily Fail story to me. I think Invincible and Illustrious were still using Goalkeeper at the time they were decommissioned, only the Ark was ever fitted wit...

Have you got a source you could post for this story?easydiver wrote:I’ve just seen a story elsewhere that the fitting of CIWS has been deferred from 2018 to 2020 to save money. It seems disappointing, but if all QNLZ is scheduled to do until then is sea trials and flying trials then it makes some sense.

https://twitter.com/navylookout/status/1003174561981091840?s=21 I’m tempted to say I smell BS.. it just doesn’t make sense considering how cautious the RN have been about the programme throughout QE’s entire time at sea, I doubt that they’d allow F-35s from 617 sqaud. to land on while she’s alongsid...

I think it’s promising, but all that ship for £250million?... what parts of the brochure would be sacrificed to meet that cost?
I’ll look forward to a side by side comparison between the Arrowhead 140 design and BAE’s offering
