Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Sorry to hear that, like most on here I enjoyed reading about his 'exploits' whilst serving in the USN and PM'd him during the turbulent times when he wanted to leave the forum, I expressed my sadness should he do that...thankfully it was for only a short time. He talked about a lot of the Carriers ...

Hope this ain't true....... MANNING ETC. The senior service is *struggling to assign 800 crew to new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, which will be commissioned into service next July. Two assault ships will go out of service so it can be manned properly. [From: http://forces.tv/16934798 ] My ...

Finally, an image of the intended new jetty that shows both carriers, one behind the other, in Pompey. Cheers for posting, you can see where they are in relation to HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Hall. Also, when both are in you'd get a great view from the viewing area of the Victory Museum building...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
A pretty good piece from MindWorks of HMS Queen Elizabeth sailing into Portsmouth. Correction: That would be QE exiting Portsmouth heading south out into the Solent as the Spinnaker Tower also faces south. Unless she is parallel parking...if so let's hope she has one heck of a reversing alarm to wa...

June's monthly update from the ACA: http://www.aircraftcarrieralliance.co.uk/~/media/Files/A/Aircraft-Carrier-Alliance-V2/documents/programme-update/2015-weekly-comms/june-2015.pdf Interesting indeed, especially about the Life rafts having to be protected once the reversion to STOVL was confirmed i...

Copy that. Wouldn't be like a MP getting dates wrong, would it?? It is worse than that, it isn't just an MP getting it wrong, she is the Minister of State for the Armed Forces... It's ok, her and the other local MP's, including the Minister for Portsmouth, have saved ship building in the area....oh...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
There is no Portsmouth-Gosport tunnel. Never happened. The tunnel was an idea for a proposed Portsmouth-Fareham tram/light rail scheme which would go out from Portsmouth Harbour railway station, under the harbour, emerge in Gosport and then reconnect to the disused Gosport-Fareham railway track rou...

How about when it comes to replace the Queen Elizabeth class in 50 years time we build 3 proper CATOBAR supercarriers: Victorious, Ark Royal and Eagle? ;) (Joke alert!) Now those are 3 names that I would like to see...of course as already pointed out, they might well be based on Spectrum Cloudbase ...

Thanks. There is one way to confirm it, go look at the Babcock shed again, UB01 was there in your previous set of photos. If it isn't there now, well, we have an answer. ;) A question. Is it too late to rename PoW to Ark Royal? I noticed recently that an older Ark Royal (the one scrapped in late 70...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Canberra and QE2 have long gone, not sure they would be so appreciative to give up the latest liners! So, I remember '82, does the Govt have the ability to take over liners for the benefit of the nation, what rule governs this? (I hope this does not go too O/T)
