Re: Ocean Class Helicopter Carrier (LPH) (RN)
Presumably some journo who associates the word with bad weather preventing aircraft taking off so just applied the word here without realising that it has a very specific (and rather career ending for the captain) meaning when it comes to ships.

* rattles cash collection tin for £3bn target * Well I've managed to find 76p down the back of the settee and I've not even checked the easy chair yet! Yep that would be the most logical thing to do, but that idea also increases your manpower(4800)and minimum aircraft(108)numbers needed Tongu...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Surely the answer to this 'two big versus three/four small' debate is to simply build a third QE class? All the advantages of three carriers and all the advantages of big carriers

Just regarding the end of that report I can't imagine that Able Seaman McNeilly will still be in the employ of the Royal Navy for very much longer!

Could they have been developed much though? You could probably shoehorn a sextuple Sea Wolf launcher on the back in place of the Sea Cat (which, to be fair, would have been quite boost) but I would have thought you'd be struggling to fit much else on a Type 21?

MBDA video. Type 23 installation from around 1:30 The perfectionist in my kind of wishes that the new cells were central in the silo rather than off to one side. But I guess it's the easiest way of fitting them and all the electronic gubbins into the available space. Still, I think it makes them lo...

Re: SDSR 2015
I've thought for a while now that a true hospital ship would be a worthwhile investment. A nice bit of soft power, useful during the aftermath of major natural disasters and also has a useful role to fill during combat operations. Perhaps the DFID could fund the procurement and operation? Seems like...

Seeing as the PoW build is going so well it's a shame there isn't a third to take advantage of all this knowledge we've acquired on how to build these carriers

Re: The Falkland Islands
Possibly so, although I believe the extensive use of aluminium in RN Vessels was a big issue in respect of fire management...I'd guess there will be someone hereabouts who knows more about that than I do? I think lessons were probably learned right across NATO and beyond from those events. Sheffiel...
