Can't see anything on the T45 like the bumps on Cardiff? But thanks for your reply, I'll keep looking.

Any ideas on what the three square bumps are on the port bow. I can't see if they're on the other side as well.

Not sure how this is part justified by 'increased demand from RN'. I know the reactor is bigger than earlier types, but that is different from Increased demand. That implies more reactors. Rewind to the seventies and eighties, we had far greater demand for reactors then. If the Increase in plant siz...

Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]
I agree with more Hull numbers, we only need to look at what happens to ships at the end of their useful lives, or indeed if the design has engineering issues that need costly and time consuming refits to rectify. At the end of the day, a bigger ship can still only be in one place at a time, and tha...

I'm sure the cost of a different airwing was also added to the guestimate, without taking off the saving of the original airwing. Courtesy of. B Hodges I believe. I have long argued for a hybrid carrier, with cats n traps on the waist, and retaining the ramp, as we are too heavily invested in Dave's...

It would be interesting to know the paint temp tolerance for applying the paint. I'm sure they will need mild weather for a sustained period to start painting the hull. Now the flight deck is in position, I don't think the shed door will close. So early Summer before roll out?

When an SR-71 was presented to Duxford, a guest speaker was a pilot who flew that particular one. He recalled an incident while flying over Russia. They could see jets coming up to try to intercept them, but of course they were safe. So safe that he decided to dump fuel, light the burners, and leave...

Or, how much are we spending on Wedgetail, How much has Crowsnest cost, How much does a Hawkeye cost, and how much would it have actually cost to put a single waist steam cat and arrestor gear on QE class.

We should remember previous stitch ups, and press on.
If we don't, no one will ever view us as a viable partner again. Then we'll be stuck with Uncle Sam, and on their terms.
No thanks.

The Japanese class of ASW Destroyers are slightly smaller I believe, albeit capable ships. Designated Destroyers from the start. But yes blurred lines, it would have been good to have 14 Destroyers again though, Inc T45. In my mind they're Destroyers.

My Favourite American Type of all time.
Followed closely by the SR-71 and the F14, in my opinion.
A truly Awesome machine, that took Fighters to a New level, smashing records on the way.
Would still be a prickly customer today.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Falklands SHAR numbers were more based on what was available, at date of sailing, rather than any specific sqdn size. 20 were sent initially so 8/12 reflected carrier size more than anything. I recall a lot of talk prior to QE build, that she would operate 24 F35, 2 sqdns in peacetime.

It looks like they plan to fill the dock area in. Would it not make more sense to build a dry dock with a hall over it? Otherwise they need that barge for every launch.

I wonder what Japan's future carrier ambitions are?
Maybe a carrier capable Tempest would raise a few eyebrows.
