Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Amphibious forces should no be the primary focus of the T32, that is a role for the MRSS. If you have a MRSS why do you need a T32? Why not a T31 and a MRSS? Where is the rationale? Rather than thinking type 32 and MRSS we should be thinking Type 31 and Type 32 together to support the LRG If we tak...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
But you have not given any clear or backed up cost savings for type 26 GP as said its price was set with the need for T-26 ASW to be a class ASW unit if you to take out the TAS it would save you 30 million if you then take out the auto gun system you save another 10 million what next say 24 CAMM 5 ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Not forgetting that the T31 also doesn't have the same standards of survivability. Often glossed over but nevertheless true. This may or may not be the case Type 31 has a set of improvements over the IH class which would of come from building and operating the IH class for a few year before T-31 ca...

Re: The future form of the Army
The problem with the future soldier and there brigade combat teams was not the high level idea but the glaring lack of logistics, engineering, artillery and medical units to support the brigades with nearly all relying on significant reserve call ups to make them function. Which meant that nearly t...

Always want more
Is a 90% increase in gun fit not enough
Is a 100% increase in missile fit not enough
Is 50% increase in range not enough
Is 100% increase in helicopter capacity not enough
No now you want more flags

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Yes but you are the one arguing against a modified T31 based T32 by saying it would be no cheaper than a T26 GP when as you say yourself T26GP price is speculative until a formal design made particularly with all the mods you suggested to make it cheaper than a tailless T26 ASW. Fair point - just t...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
If type 26 GP is as cheap and easily done as you claim why didn’t BAE bid it for the Type 31 contest? Good question, because the requirements didn’t require it. Also, anyone could see the “anyone but BAE” bias going on, so part of it was probably them thinking the customer is asking for x, so we’ll...

No I am sorry there is nothing mythical about Type 26 GP it was to be a type 26 with TAS & ASW crew removed. I am also sorry to say that cost of Type 26 is well known BAE have said that if they could have built T-26 at there own rate we could have got 9 ships for the 8 billion which is 890 mill...

depending what the RN do with Type 31 as far as Mk-41 goes if they were to fit all 32 cells and then quad pack CAMM then that is what they should have done with type 45 allowing 64 CAMM it could of meant type 45 having a load out of say 32 CAMM , 32 CAMM-ER and 48 Aster 30 NG plus 8 NSM and then re...

Re: The future form of the Army
For me moving 16 AAB to the 1st division makes on sense the first already has 11 infantry battalions 5 in the 7th BCT and 6 in the 4th BCT for me it would be better to move the light Cavalry unit out of the DRF BCT and form 3 good light mechanised BCT's with 1 x cavalry regt 3 x Light Mech battalion...

Re: The future form of the Army
Could the armoured regiments move to a Type 46 formation with say 3 squadrons like so
2 x CH3 & 2 x Ajax Sqn HQ
3 x troops of 4 CH3
1 Troop of 4 Ajax's
If so we could keep 3 Armoured regiments

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
That's trying to do too much with the frigate form factor. Really don’t see where you’re coming from tbh. You’re looking at trying to make a frigate a lpd equivalent. A frigates is a frigate this design is offering flexibility as a frigate. My point is: If RN really wants to do the T32 concept prop...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
IMO Boxer is just too expensive to do everything within the current budget envelope so a mixed Boxer/Patria solution would be an affordable way to mitigate the total clusterfu@k that is British Army procurement in recent years. I don't think anyone here is against Patria 6x6, it is a good vehicle a...

My view is that things have moved on I don't see a need for MRV-P 2 anymore ... Sorry but that is just your view. Now with all that said if we add a HMS and can build it for 350 million the RN has a ship that is 85% of a Type 26 GP for less than half the price. Why will it be half the price of a “GP” T26? Has anyone ask BAE what the price would be for a fleet of 5 with a design closer to the original one? The ...

Well if they do lets hope they have the sense to order Patria 6x6 How could Patria 6x6 could win MRV-P 2 when it is not even one of contenders for it? Realistically, Patria 6x6 has more chance as FV432 replacement. My view is that things have moved on I don't see a need for MRV-P 2 anymore the time...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
So on the new model it is fitted with 1 x 57mm , 1 x 40mm , 2 x Phalanx , 16 Mk-41 VLS It clearly has room on top of the amidship mission bay for 24 Mushroom CAMM and 16 NSM this would give the ship 24 CAMM & 32 cells this could allow a load out of 24 x CAMM , 32 x CAMM ER/MR , 8 x FC/ASW or 32 ...
