Re: Boeing Chinook (RAF)
Lol, I live up the road from that white horse and spent many an evening in my teens/early 20s parked up or wandering by it with girls I took up there to pull. That horse did me a lot of favours so always have a soft spot for him. Hadn’t realised he was so young, I’d always imagined it to be very old...

Re: Reaction Engines Ltd. Skylon (Reusable Spaceplane)
Great news, we need to do something or risk being frozen out of hypersonic. There has already been talk amongst China, Russia and US about ypersonic tech being limited to only them, similar to how the nuclear nations see nuclear proliferation now. We’d never be anywhere near top table again if that ...

Re: Russian Armed Forces
Never liked the STOBAR concept myself, sort of the worst of both worlds IMO. whilst as stated it’s probably all fantasy, but to me that design looks to have the old British carrier design style of sharply flared sides rather than the US massive sponsons. Guessing with that in mind it will carry armo...

Why is there no MAD boom on the standard p8? Is it cos it’s designed to be mostly high altitude or were methods seen to be more effective?

Perhaps I’m imagining it then but I had got it in my head work was done on the apaches at least to make them more salt water resistant and able to operate in high EM environments and their deployment against Libya (I think though could be elsewhere) was the first proof/vindication of this work. Mayb...

I definitely know who's the "snowflake" here. If that’s directed at me then lol cos anyone who knows me will tell you I’m about as far from snowflake politics as one can get. I don’t personally give a fuck about johnson’s Private life and having read this morning’s times I’m feeling prett...

Lol, when I read the thread title I thought the topic was Boris johnson’s Domestic! Can’t believe anyone could mess up at such an inconvenient time. “digital stealth” Is anyone at these shows actually impressed by this kind of bullshit? I dunno, yes it’s hyperbole but I want to see us spend more on upgrading Typhoon along these lines. Like it or not spectra gives rafale a boost, it was the only fighter to fly combat missions over Libya without ...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
The tailless JAST/JSF was very much the most interesting, real pity that it lost out. But despite lots of manufacturers proposing tailless design when push comes to shove (except with flying wings) they all seem to end up with a tail. That’s fair and conservative does seem to be the accepted wisdom...

SW1 - Ah sorry, see what you mean. Was just assuming the Paris model cos the Airbus one had been out a while and till today I’d only seen images of the Paris model from angles that I couldn’t be certain of the planform. Interestingly in the video I linked the guy says they’re looking at a few differ...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Didn’t think the wing looked like a cranked or cranked delta to me when it was mentioned the other day but was unsure as the angle of the pics made it very hard to tell accurately in fairness. This video has much better angles and you can see its lambda delta which is what I’d thought I’d seen. For ...

Still think the reduced to 12 number of CMC missile cells is a stupid choice, same with the never carrying more than 40 warheads isn’t it? Whilst the yanks are going for 16 on theirs this time, they had 24 on the current design. If you’re gonna spend the sort of colossal money an SSBN costs you may ...

When I went to Fairford last year there was both an raf e3 and and raaf e7 wedgetail there as static displays (at least when I was there you couldn’t see inside just from outside and the thing that really struck me on first impression was the huge size difference. The E3 really does look massive nex...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Along the lines of what’s being discussed above, let’s hope we can all be grown up when sorting production this time. IMO we have to avoid a repeat of the eurofighter ‘build the left wing here and the right there...’ stuff, followed by multiple production lines as it must have really added to costs ...

Anyone see the Franco/German FCAS models on XAV’s videos on euronaval? There was both a manned and UCAS in the display.
