Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
UK could do something like 2 meteors and 4 Cudas for 6 air to air missiles. Sidekick is not gonna be available for the B version. 4 Meteor and 2 Asraam will be plenty. The max loadout of missiles of current and previous generation fighters was 4 medium range and 4 short ranged missiles. But all tho...

I can't think of an Air Force establishment I've visited in the last decade that isn't crumbling.
That said some of the F35 buildings are decent, but the rest of the station is falling apart.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Sadly HMS PWLS sits in dry dock in Rosyth. The crew understandably must be pulling their hair out. This latest disaster comes on top of other mishaps that have caused the ship to be under going repairs for more days than it has been at sea. About to set sail for a visit to the US for major trials a...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I actually think that a soldier earning 22K should not be asked to do the work of someone earning much more. Forces personnel are not allowed to strike and their numbers are much less than in the "fucking" seventies. If anyone deserves a rise in pay its them and that is a big part of the ...

Back in the 70's I drove fuel tankers, green goddesses and snow ploughs, helped with flood defences and moved rotten potatoes from Hull docks. So I do appreciate it was not what i signed up to do but at the same time someone had to do it. Good for you, I'll get you a medal. The world has changed no...

Indeed, nipper reckoned end of march at the latest, although he and many of his warfare crew are in Manchester at the moment being trained in passport control. Interesting skill to learn. At least he is not stuck onboard. Debatable. I currently have juniors assisting with that to cover striking bor...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Knowing the RAF's love of shipborne aviation, I shudder to think how few F-35's will be embarked. 8 flew out from Marham this afternoon in 4 waves of 2 to embark on QNLZ in the North Sea 8 jets for a 70k ton carrier. That will have Putin shaking in his boots. 6 to protect the carrier and 2 for offe...

Re: Cyprus SBA - Sovereign Base Areas
I doubt it, i don't see the point. There hasn't been aircraft there full time for years (bar SAR). The camp isn't really set up for full time operations, as in all posted out there on a overseas accompanied tour. The camp needs quite a bit of money spending on it. I doubt it's anything anyone is pu...

Its not even as if PoW has been pushed hard for the last 18mths and the Engineering Dept have had how long to prepare for this deployment, making sure everything was 100% ready to go? To suffer such a major malfunction within 24hrs of leaving port is a total failure on someone's part. I don't see h...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Its getting really tiresome seeing pictures of these carriers at sea with everything on the flight deck except the one bloody thing they were built to carry. ..are they wrapping these F35's up in cotton wool with a 'Break glass in case of emergency' deployment rule or something. Not worth letting t...
