Re: Australian Defence Force
A long Range Stealth Bomber armed with US LRASMs or other munitions would be very effective at enighing sea space to enemy warships, and would be a logical successor for the F-111C with Harpoon. WIth a good sensor suite it would have significant recce capabilities near the "First Island Chain&q...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
The BAe Systems Strike Frigate is more like their version of a T-31 and should be seen as a non starter for the T-32. TO keep things simple the T-32 needs to be an evolution of the T-31, turning it in to a fully fledged Combat Vessel. As for the T-31, it need more teeth otherwise it will be good for...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
Yes it is a very good Weapon System, high rate of fire, one of the best protected SPGs out there. TO really have an effect though it needs to be performing MRSI mission in Batteries. Such actions will allow them to smother a target with up to 32 rounds landing simultaneously form an eight gun batter...

An actual MoD one thought I am not privy to the number and details. Like a number if capabilities it has existed for a long time but never high enough to have action taken, there has always been something more importantthat required resources.

Purchasing addition stocks of compllicated weaponsystems like missiles in addition to simple ammunition should be done on a yearly basis, the amount icreasing if there is any in year underspend. Historically we have kept out stock levels low, relying on NATO reserves, like what happened during the F...

Re: Section Infantry Weapons
IF BAe can produce one million rounds a week at half capacity, it does make one wonder if we have been increasing our ammunition reserves on the quiet for a while or shipping latge amount of 5.56 and 7.62 NATO to Ukraine. AS for what would happen if BAE System's site was taken out by enemy missiles,...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Whilst the RN's programme for its next generation of escorts is healthy, all four designs need to have greater offensive capability. We plan to have the FCASW in service before 2030, but this is really a silver bullet, designed for long reange anti ship and land attack and is going to be expensive. ...

Video from Forces News regarding the BAe Systems factory where the MoD has its ammunition made. Interesting regarding it only working at 50% capacity and the fact they have developed a light weight 5.56 round.

Despite the announcement I am not too confident these capabilities will be delivered at all. How long has the existing requirement for a replacement for Bloodhound sat at the back of the cupboard gathering dust for example?

EIther turret developed with the CT40 installed could be the basis of an effectve SHORAD system with the appropriate targeting and FCS. Both have the elevation and the ability to feed sensor fued ammunition. BAe also has access to the Swedish 40mm SHORAD platform using the CV90 platform.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
We really need to look at forming the planned Mechanised Infantry Battalions as self contained all aspect units that can be augmented by heavy Arour and heavr Recce units. The best place to look is still the US Army's Stryker Brigades which have continued to evolve since their introduction.. The way...

That is interesting. I believe the M2s in use with the British Army were produced in the UK under licence and include improvement over the original weapon. I think an improved QCB was one of them.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
The British Army has had that since at least 2008... [/quote] Not to the level aspired to by the early 2030s which not only applies to the ISTAR assets and the data they produce but also individual weapon systems. Looking at ATGW, none of what we are currently using can be fully networked, the only ...

Re: The war in Ukraine
They have soviet era missile systems that have a range easily reaching 200km and an Air Base is a pretty large stationary target and they know the location as prior to 2014 it was one of theirs. Ukraine has been careful not to use its long range rocket too often, but if Russian air power is having a...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
It might be quicker to wait for the first T-83 to enter service to gain a ABM capability. If that vessel doesn't use Aster we would lose any commonality with its land based cousin. This is more important in my opinion as it can be networked seamlessly with our planed Sky Sabre Batteries, finally giv...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
We must not forget that by 2030 the British Army is looking to become a fully digital and networked force, allow ISTAR date to be freely moved around its units. Assuming we did purchase a new NLOS weapon system, with the latest version of the Spike NLOS missile being the most mature and avasilable o...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Sorry, but when in service Swingfire was class as the Army's long range ATGW, only beaten by the TOW on its Lynx AH-7. However you are correct regarding the FV438, Infantry Battalions had their Milan Section(s) which varied greatly in size over time. As I also mentioned the Spartan MCT was also intr...

Going all in with Sea Viper as well as purchasing a number of SAMP/T batteries would meet the UK's need for both defending the country and fores deployed further afield. Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
The LSS will not operate without an escort screen designed to be effective at whichever level of conflict is involved. This could be simply a single T-31 up to having a CSG available and both T-26 and T-45 in close. The size of the LSS is probably going to be less than many people think, which is wh...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Historically, the structure of Infantry Battalions has included the inclusion of both Mortar and Long Range ATGW Sections. For the latter Swingfire mounted on FV438s was the norm until replaced in the late 1980s by hte Spartan MCT and the addition of Milan Foring Posts to some Warriors. Today a much...

The size of any future LSS will be based around the needs of the RM LSU and any SF embarked. We are only looking at a reinforced Company sized force, self contained on each deployed LSS. Using the existing Albions, Bays and Argus should not be seen as representing the size of ship required for the L...
