Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
Given my calculations of the margin to be made building one T31e I dare not faff about the money made selling the design. getting economies of scale building T26s is the way to go. I also entirely agree our requirements should be defined by the hot war role not our patrolling or flag flying requirem...

Personally I think having multiple CMSs is important and a good thing. Imagine if Apple and Google had only been available in the States...... Nokia and Blackberry anyone?
Apple demonstrated how naff they both were.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
There aren't many things I agree with Trump about but in terms of European Nato members not spending enough on their own defence I agree. We suffer both funding and capability gaps which are most definitely connected at the moment. We also probably lack operational training exercises and spare parts...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
I cannot picture any Board of a plc signing off on a contract to build either proposal for that price and that maximum margin. Essentially the frigate needs to be constructed for £234m. Is it worth the risk for £16m? Higher volume means the risks can be mitigated with more automation, better trainin...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Alternatively we could just get some MV22s which must be pretty multifunctional. If they need to clear the deck they could hop onto an auxiliary asset. Sentry should be replaced with wedgetail, and our tankers sorted for boom operation and UARRSI

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
There is much talk about stretching the money and reducing capabilities but I think the best way to get what we need has already been offered today and would not be a silly idea. Upping the build speed and increasing the numbers of T26s, justifying investment in more efficient production techniques,...

What is with all the ExLS mythology around here? It is not required becuase the CAMM launch mechanism is self contained within the sealed missile canister. The only requirement is a bit of scaffolding to hold the canister in place, see the Army's application as an example. ExLS just puts an expensi...

Perhaps Tempest414 is on to something is future stealth clutter? Swam attacks and swam/clutter defense techniques , steel cables and nanotube nets of buckyballs filled with hydrogen to blow incoming missiles up...... At least a few different concepts to consider there.. https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/d...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
The Tactical Bay 206 concept is slightly smaller than the USN's San Antonio class LPD but in a lot of ways the two designs are similar. The higher build standards of the San Antonio class shows in the massively different price tag I have always been a massive fan of the San Antonios, and unlike som...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
All these links and missiles are extremely technical. I say that because on the one side we have suggestions that quad packing CAMMS for the possibility of swam attacks would be a fairly 'simple' (my words) improvement. On another side we have links being used to help prosecute the threat. The reali...

I have no idea why a nuclear submarine takes so long to build but there must be a fair bit of exploration along the road of manufacturing efficiencies and speed. Maybe that is what they can work on.

Why would the Aussies be exporting EMPAR? Doesn’t the E stand for European? Also has it been stated that the RFA SSS will get Artisan? My blooper.... I did mean CEAFAR. I realise there probably isn't the money but Artisan is ordered now, so I was suggesting if we were to use the kit somewhere else ...

I congratulate Prodrive on its success. When I worked there Prodrive Engineering was spread a bit thin, but the mainstream manufacturers are prepared to use Williams, Maclaren and Prodrive and it benefits us all. Of course bespoke rapid prototyping engineered products are very different to mass prod...

How many Artisan sets are there going to be to port over? 13? T26 3 T31 6 MARS SSS 3 I don't think we really know the figures but batch 2 T26 will require new sets so maybe they will be different. It does seem possible that Australia has potential to export EMPAR to the UK and Canada. Signing the de...

I am really hoping that our Government is reflecting hard about the decimation of our capabilities. We are replacing with some decent kit but the numbers and half baked way we go about things is piss poor. The RAN may not have our capabilities but they do appear to be improving what they have in lea...

I am probably not helping much by saying this but in many ways the sheer amount of valuable kit an amphibious vessel carries justifies far more than the standards used for Ocean and the Bays.

I would add BMD capabilities and have the capabilities to cope with multiple flights concurrently plus V22 capable. I love the proposals and has been what I have said time and time again. Patrol vessels need to be bit more than that if we are to have a capable Navy. What you have proposed Poiuytrewq...

Personally always thought, provided we ordered the full 13, the T26 had the better export potential. Units costs aren't helped by the reduced orders.
