Interesting if feasible. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/boeing-to-conduct-ski-jump-trials-for-super-hornet/ Would give the UK access to tankers & ew support from Growlers. Discuss :?: Something to remember for when discussion of the carriers' major mid-life refits gets serious, but highly unli...

Re: USA Armed Forces
KAAV is a ways off yet, but it will be interesting to see how well it avoids the EFV's biggest headaches. Supposedly, USMC still plans for a high-speed vehicle in ACV Phase II. So it could be an opportunity to explore a partnership.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
so I assume that a semi submersible barge will be used. an instant buoyancy test, the USN way, is much more fun, with a bigger splash! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_wnwFpw26g MM will, thankfully, cease chucking hulls into the river sideways if they win FFGX. That is, if the synchrolift can surv...

Re: USA Armed Forces
Just a small correction, the NGCV/OMFV program hasn't been scrapped, the then-current solicitation for the rapid prototyping phase was cancelled. The program could still be totally rebooted, and Congress might be push them in that direction if they don't like what they hear in the wake of this cance...

Re: USA Armed Forces
Holy cow, FMM will stop pitching ships sideways into the river if they win the Frigate contract?!? Suddenly I'm a lot happier about their perceived front-runner status. Still wish they were on a coast, but things like the dynalift (and new assembly hall) are good news.

A couple tweets with updated images of General Dynamics' Mobile Protected Firepower submission. GDLS' bid is descended from their Griffin series of concepts, which started as a modified Ajax hull with the turret from an M1A2 (sans armor) in Griffin I and evolved into the Griffin II with a new Ajax-r...

Re: USA Armed Forces
The Austal concept is pretty interesting, along with the USMC's search for new platforms it would seem to have utility for the sort of missions the USN originally desired LCS for. With the rise of the Frigate program, some of those "less than fleet action" missions are once again getting p...

Yes, Burnt Frost (the USA-193 shootdown) established that Aegis with SM-3 has some ASAT capability. Add in the higher performance of Block IIA, and the greater capabilities of Aegis Baseline 10 (including SPY-6), and it's safe to say low-orbit intercepts are definitely on the board.

Use hull tooling and reactor production line for the SSBNs to produce a large-diameter SSN. Produce an all-new large-diameter SSN in the tradition of the Seawolf class, designed for performance against peer threats and affordability in series production, on it's own line. Interesting, as the assump...

Re: USA Armed Forces
The first boat leaves service roughly in 2027, barring an unlikely extra refueling and life extension. SSN-23 will stick around awhile extra due to it's lengthy build and unique mission capabilities. There won't be a dramatic "up-spec" within in Block V, other than the VPM, the follow-on B...

It's pylons. Even with standardized pylons, fit checks still happen. Have to check ground handling clearances, load distribution, etc.

So South Korea and Japan are both pursuing compact footprints and 360° real-time video in their command centers, fascinating. I hope someone is able to do a study comparing them to the huge, theater-like SMC on a DDG-1000. I'd be very interested in seeing data on the advantages/disadvantages of each...

Nicholas Drummond's idea for a Boxer based Brit Centauro complete with 120m gun. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EH9uQyvWoAMnTIZ?format=jpg&name=medium I imagine such a concept is definitely coming, but oh my does the looming Great British Tank Fight seem daunting. Maybe better to "settle"...
