Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

the budget for the next gen ASM missile is a future budget not currently allowed for so what do you want to cut now to pay for harpoon life extension?

a few options 1.use part of the budget to extend current stocks, 2. expend hose stocks and UOR purchase the old system missilesfrom allies if the need arises 3.use part of the budget to buy an interim solution and its support then use the remaining budget to buy the optimal solution and its support...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think what a lot of people have a problem with this the length that we are gapping it for, we are not talking a couple of years we are talking 10 years that's a bloody long time. You keep asking what current threat is it needed for but 10 years is such a long time it allows for no end of change t...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

There is my point. There are a number of individuals, including it appears, those who actually control the budget, whom believe an anti-ship weapon can be gapped. There are also a number who believe a helicopter is the platform of choice. A helicopter's weapons load is extremely low in volume if no...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Well, there's one undoubtably good consequence of all this fleet reduction by the RN: soon all the RN ships will be able to be in one port, imagine how much money will that save for the NHS and international aid... Something to remember about the NHS it is 4th line medical care for the milita...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I do wonder what the future basing arrangements will be? Will all the escorts go into Portsmouth to be with the carriers or will they spread to Devonport? Last reports I read indicated a split, but no details. Will it still be 7 at Devonport and 6 Portsmouth (as is the current T23 basing)? Will it ...

there are far to many career polticians. There are a number of ones who aren't and had jobs in the real world including ex military. Like Johnny Mercer MP

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

can anyone tell me what the CURRENT real threat that needs A heavy anti ship missile? I know threats can change fairly rapidally. Preparing only for the "current" in today's timescales of military procurement is capability suicide. It takes years to integrate. By the time that's done, suc...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

with Brexit looming the government needs to promote British industry. I totally agree we'll get better value for if its bought from S Korea. Given the situation there could they be vulnerable if they are built there. We'll soon hear from UK shipbuilding unions if there is any problems.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Do you honestly think that the T31 will have ASM and/or Mk41 VLS? to meet the desired goal of being an "exportable" frigate it will need to have those sorts of things to compete Launchers like MK41 and Sylver give that flexibility to carry either/or or a mix of weapons and Type 31 will ne...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Great. Now, count how many gaps do you see there. Now you see why I'm so full of negativity about RN/UKAF future... why Harpoon came in Air, Land, Ship and submarine launched versions and there is no reason to believe the next generaton of ASM won't be capable of that. Merlin has the capacity to ta...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Well yes, I know that, but I don't consider that as something good and praiseworthy... no it isn't ideal. However I'd rather not see us buy twice like we did with Exocet then going to Harpoon. Some of the T45 were fitted for Harpoon the 23's are the 26 might be along in time for the new missile as ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

So the T23GP is a low-end light frigate? They have been neutered, so yes. right given NATO and the USN will still have stocks of Harpoon if the need arises I'm fairly confident harpoon would mysteriously appear on the type 23. So begging around to get it's ass out of fire is now SOP for the RN/UKAF...
