Indeed so. The name's had a very varied life, to put it mildly.

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels
Some trivia: HMS Tamar was a name once assigned to a River class frigate in 1946 for a brief time, before the original name was brought back (HMS Aire) upon the ship's end. HMS Spey was last used on a River class minesweeper as recently as 1998. Both quite appropriate names then, given they've been ...

Having an interest/hobby in military developments and technologies is amazing, but goodness me it sure isn't one with fast developments.

Guys, chill. Lets avoid having to "put the foot down" in here.
Discussion is fine, debate is fine. Throwing out the passive aggressive superiority at one another is not, regardless of who is right or wrong.

Interesting comparison that the French utilise 4 VBLs with every 4 Leclercs as their "hounds", to rove around and keep an eye out for them.
Allegedly, the Leclerc commanders absolutely adore this setup and find it (in exercise) extremely effective.

Well the Marksman turret fits on Challenger hulls and we're gonna have a whole bunch of them left over soon...
Directly need something that isn't just SHORAD though. Get some SAMP/T on a MAN SV already.

You know when I do my "thing" of making a parodied quote of what the government would say to a criticism brought up here, I don't actually expect that to become a reality . Then they do it and make it not a parody anymore. Except one of a defence ministry. Flagging up "But we have new...

The rumour of T-14's alternate gun is a 152mm. However it is extremely unlikely to come to fruition. The T-14's advancement over the T-90 is primarily in its mobility, survivability and its "soft" lethality, as in FCS, sights etc. Significant crew survivability advancements too. While the ...

I am perpetually impressed by Italy's escorts development. The Bergamini class is an absolute bar-setter for European frigates, and only continues to be moreso.

I've said this about other capability "gaps" (12 years is not a "gap", it's a loss) on this forum when the "Lets try and make this not sound as bad to defend Britain online" thing crops up. If these were not considered essential bits of kit then every single leading nav...

Cost, as always. It's not an "essential" upgrade, as the Typhoon is already one of the most dominant A2A fighters in the world. So they are prioritising other things like AESA, A2G and avionics. Would be nice, but it's far down on the priority scale. Same as why the EJ-200S2 engines are d...

It was always going to be the case. Even the lighter VBCI was demanded to be uparmoured from the "trials of truth", a large portion of why the VBCI ended up as 32 tonnes, which the French Army is also wanting as an upgrade.

What an absolute farce. They conclude the F-35 is the best option, look to buy. The left wing party then slates the "no competition" approach. And now that same party does a no competition approach themselves, repeatedly delaying what they know damn well is the best option. They committed ...

Boxer AGS would be a naturally useful commonality. I'm still fond of AMV as well, mind. Boxer hasn't shown any integration with CT40 yet, given the firepower lack.

Checking on twitter, seems this is just 7 squadrons having each reduced in numbers to make an 8th.
No increase in overall plane numbers, just each squadron gets smaller.

So yes, thats why they would need them. Because literally every other big navy in the world cannot all be wrong. And yet the Russian submarine launched Club-S anti-shipping missile has a range of 220 kilometres and Type 53-65 torpedo has a range of 22 kilometres. In contrast Sting Ray launched from...
