Re: UK Complex Weapons Thread

AMRAAM from land is apparently supposed to be around 20km range.

Depends on the AMRAAM version though, I suppose.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Much of the Type 26's costing could be considered as having been measured on the old adage of 18 of them. When that drops to 8, of course the price will skyrocket. Look at HMS Duncan compared to HMS Daring in their costs. Almost halved! Even PoW has ended up vastly more efficient than QE and that's...

Re: French Armed Forces

Yeesh.

You don't hear a lot of negatives about France's military (Maybe it's just the language barrier that I don't see it) but that is indicative of some very nasty things we don't often hear news about.

Grass is always greener, as they say.

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)

Black Knight isn't as large as a tank, that's for certain. A very fancy, very interesting prototype however. It's the same issue every time, that an unmanned ground vehicle is too lacking in situational awareness and 'natural awareness' of everything going on around it at the moment. They have poten...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)

There is a small auxiliary storage, however that also has blow out panels and a sealed container, almost exactly the same as the turret.

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)

The "below the turret ring" blog has a good piece on Leopard 2 losses in Syria. Not everything is as it is portrayed. Below the Turret Ring is run by a guy who works for a German Defence Company, either Rheinmetall or KMW. Not exactly an unbiased source, and he specifically avoids reporti...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)

It makes absolutely no difference in this regard. The components that would detonate in a single piece ammunition are the same ones that exist in the Challenger 2, and they're still stored in with the crew. The only advantage of two piece ammo in this regard is that it means the turret bustle can be...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)

Not sure I'd point the Challenger 2 one to looking "worse" other than in an aftereffect manner. If you look at various other angles of the Leopard 2 destruction, it had a detonation in its frontal ammo rack. Half the entire front of the vehicle has been torn completely off. The crucial fac...

Re: Storm Shadow Missile (RAF)

France had ordered 500 SCALP. More than a hundred were fired at the war, in Libya and the Middle East. I don't know how much will be renovated for the moment. France made an announcement at some point they are dropping to 100 missiles, likely to free up funds for the Navy's version. So likely thats...

Re: Gun 84mm Infantry L14a1 (CARL GUSTAV)

NLAW's top attack doesn't really do a huge amount against APS, as the missile still approaches from the horizontal axis, the route that APS is currently enabled against.

There really is a concern of "too many launchers" that can emerge, it's a very intriguing balance.

And funnily enough BBC don't report it at all.

Apparently PewDiePie's youtube channel being dropped by Disney is bigger news to them.

They really don't give a damn on defence matters.

My hope is on Spartan or high end Venator.

My expectation is Cutlass.

Avenger is just silly. It can't be a serious contender.

The "other option" was from Babcock, and is likely an uparmed Samuel Beckett.

16x Mk41 8x CAMM silos (Possibly quad silos? Picture is unclear.) For the first one: how can you tell? For the latter: why the silos only on one side? What is the space on the other side reserved for? They look like Mk41's, and I believe the brochure mentioned them? Of course, no idea on if strike ...

Hmm, would be interested to see the French text on it anyhow. The CdG looked mighty cramped when she deployed with 24 Rafale only, and no Super Etendards. I couldn't really see any more room.

Just curious mind, not saying SOURCE OR FAKE or nuthin here :p

Such an interesting situation. Italy just became the premier carrier nation in Europe for a while. :p Do you have a source on it being able to go to 30 Rafale with this upgrade? Every source I've seen before specifies it as maxing out at 23/24 Rafale, 2 E-2s and a half dozen helos, due to the increa...

Re: Double NICs allowed - to interrogate this forum for journalistic or other purposes?

Checking my inbox, I have no PM from that time period.

Almost a year is a little long to send one and assume if you don't see anything. Using the report tool, and then PMing up if they doesn't work is generally the best method. If there is no response, a follow up PM is entirely justified.

Re: Double NICs allowed - to interrogate this forum for journalistic or other purposes?

It's worth stating. If you feel someone is inciting issues by posting with multiple accounts, then PMing a moderator with evidence and examples is the best approach you can give. Opening a vaguely accusatory thread claiming we haven't done anything about it, when not a single person has sent a singl...

Stealth isn't an on or off switch. Carrying external stores makes it "more" visible by specific definition, but it doesn't mean it's not still stealthy. It's like saying if you put an extra suitcase in your car, it gets a little slower, but it doesn't mean it turns into a steamroller speed...
