Re: Brexit - The UK's European Union Referendum

Listened to Mrs. May just now........"Trexbi Smena Trexbi"

Frankly she seems scared to me......I doubt she will get "Article 50" through Westminster. (Supreme Court willing)

Re: Northern Ireland (Political Thread)

I recon Sinn Féin is looking to squeeze the DUP (pro Brexit) voters over to UUP (anti Brexit) and that with a reduced number of Assembly Members this time they might get rid of some of the more antediluvian Loyalists.

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels

The costs are really incredible.......If you're looking for exports don't bother asking Ireland. (though we might take the Type1s if they are cheap) We'll stick with Appledore I think. We could buy 12 P60s for that sort of cash.

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels

There is "talk" of replacing the P40s with "something similar" with notional anti-sub/mines capability (I'd prefer the Rivers) and a larger vessel, probably something similar to a Damen Crossover Logistics........If the Rivers were bought there might be a chance of going directly...

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels

Didn't realise that Mark......pity, they would be ideal for INS.....The P40s are really only suitable for Costal patrol and I think EEZ patrol will become much more "interesting" over the next 5 years.

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels

Ta Donald. I like the Rivers too....If they go for sale I'd like the INS to go for them (at the right price) as replacements for the P40s and then look for a new larger type as replacement for LE Deirdre. ......In fact both types exercised together recently http://navaltoday.com/2016/10/10/hms-sever...

Re: Brexit - The UK's European Union Referendum

Well Sturgeon is struggling in Scotland a lot of people would like her out. There are big problems there but all she can do is spout political hatred. she isn't struggling in Scotland, Labour and the Lib Dems are the strugglers up there, i saw a poll last week Labour are now down to 15% and SNP are...

Re: Scotland (Political Thread)

Military aspects of an independent Scotland raise interesting questions. I'm sure the "average" Scot is as interested in the armed forces as the "average" UK citizen. Gabrielles' post above that "Scotland could be given some Typhoon tranche 1, withdrawn armoured vehicles, th...

Re: Brexit - The UK's European Union Referendum

Interesting commentary.......Speaking (as an outsider again) it appears to me that the "democratic demand" for a referrendum being in a manifesto is fair enough. But what percentage of the population actually voted Tory?.... (FPTP is hardly an exemplar of Democracy) Similarly one should th...

Re: Brexit - The UK's European Union Referendum

Hi Demereifield. Interesting comments ...thanks. I am an EU citizen (like yourself I presume so we're all insiders then). The referrendum was not called in response to any "democratic" demand from the people or UKIP for one (sorry) I agree we thought we were joining the EEC not a federal s...

Re: Brexit - The UK's European Union Referendum

Hopefully the EU Superstate is dead Mark.....Pity the UK didn't do more from the inside though. I never worry too much about being made to look "stupid" either. Having been forced to bail out European banks and the Euro a few years ago (we paid 42% of the total cost) the Irish are not very...

Re: Brexit - The UK's European Union Referendum

Looking at Brexit from the outside it appears to me that the referrendum was called primarily to prevent a "Palace Coup" within the Tory party. Something it failed miserably to achieve. It was a "brave" vote on the whole but the law of unintended consequences will produce a secon...

Re: Babcock Shipbuilders LE Samuel Beckett

The new Batch of Rivers look good enough too Mark......The P60s are "improved" P50s optimised for patroling the north Atlantic in winter. They are all as "fighty" as was thought appropriate and the INS seems happy enough to send them to the Med. They are not designed to defeat Ch...
