We know at least one of the second-hand aircraft has already been delivered. So does this mean the MoD is contractually tied into paying for five airframes but only putting three into service as E-7s?

Maybe the plan is 3 now, an additional 2 as & when funds become available :?:

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Looks good though I always liked the concept set of it mounted on the rear ramp

Hopefully in the future the radar could be carried aloft higher & longer by a UAV of some description.

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Not really.

It was July 2003 that the UK govt pulled us from the Boxer program. Bare in mind we were one of the three founders & correct me if I'm wrong all Boxers are right hand drive.

In July 2003 the PM was a certain Mr Blair with a certain Mr Brown holding the purse strings as Chancellor.

Boxer should have been the future long before now. I believe you can thank Blair & Brown for that particular cock up.

Must be something going on up here just now. There's 4 USN P8 flying from Prestwick. The 3 (4?) RAF at Lossie & they've been joined by another 3 USN (i think from Italy)

Exercise or Russian subs snooping again?

Clearly the arresting gear isn't going to trap anything too large (looks like Hermes 450s - no need for Watchkeeper spec over the ocean), however it shows what could be achieved on the QEC with its far larger deck area, with regards UAVs and possibly something like a BN Defender.... Time ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

However, for a complementary escort, I’d see the following as essential requirements: - Aviation facilities for 2 Merlin / Wildcats - Large gun for NGFS - Active Sonar - Local air defence via CAMMs - ASuW missiles - Ability is to support a 30-60 RM detachment - Boat / Mission bay to handle USV/UUVs...

Absalon style for the T32 given the T31 is based
on the Iver Huitfeldt (they are siblings after all) Spun as a boost to the RM as well as the RN?

That or the full blown Danish navy spec Air def frigate, maybe they've decided 6 T45 ain't enough.

Cheers. So the WHA-64D and up coming AH-64E have very limited marinization modifications and therefore should not be used for any extended maritime operations to avoid causing expensive damage to the aircraft. All the more reason to give all the Army's Wildcats to the RN/RM & equip them properl...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

Time perhaps to look again at the Warrior upgrade.

Should we just scrap the idea in favour of more Boxers, these fitted with turrets with the CTA & perhaps a buy of the Ascod 2 apc variant. Bin the warrior completely or convert them to replace the old Bulldogs (FV 432)

Rather OT as it refers to air assets not coast/navy but driving passed Kinloss the other day it amazes me just how open & easy to access the P8s & Typhoon's seem. Some jihadi with a self made mortar (ie IRA attack on downing St) could make a real mess from the road. Infact a stolen HGV would...
