The time difference to Nevada desert gives you a lot of time to take cover!

Cheers, will dig in to stage 3 and hope the 6 inches of overhead cover will suffice!!!

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)

I suspect we will have the Hunts and Sandowns for some time to come. They are still viable and being upgraded to take USV/UAV presently. Sure, some roro for T26/31 would be nice but lets get hulls in the water first (a viable contract and propulsion train for the 26 would be nice too). Cue the BAe b...

Re: Future ASW

Ron, At the risk of being obtuse, when was that image posted? I only ask because the FAA 849 Sqn simulator that is about to be delivered is still based on the HM-2 Barco displays apparently. It might be that the interface is the same but the consoles are to change. The original contract for intercha...

Re: Future ASW

Everything is now migrated onto the standard HM 2 consoles AFAIK. The LM bid was dropped but the rethink may yet bring it back in. The older ASAC consoles would require changes to the cabin according Leonardo.

Re: Future ASW

AEW and ASW both use the standard HM-2 console, processor, and power train. The software is obviously different and the airframe requires the mountings but the intent is to plug and play. Both SW2000/CD/MTI with Cerberus and the Elta pod have to use the same architecture. the latter means the should...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)

I would have to agree on the commonality but the airframe sizes may have been a problem, A330 for MRTT and AEW and A319/321 for MPA. There would have been the economies of scale in core component and provider though. Sadly the MoD procurement was screwed up seriously in the late 90's with condensati...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)

Thanks HM, perhaps you could explain to our friend the principles of surface tract propagation and CZ detection, I cant be arsed. The P7 and the Be200 were the only new airframes (MoD wanted new) available worldwide at the time (1995). P7 cancellation forced reworked P3, MR2P, and Atlantique being o...

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.

Just standard ass first reporting from the Guardian. I suspect the new CODOG / AEP arrangement is proving difficult to isolate. I th8nk the T45 gave off a higher 60Hz signature than planned so they may have a similar problem.

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)

I fear that we must agree to differ. Having known the source in the kipper fleet for a very long time ( a person who was both flight commander, sqn commander, boss ops, and base commander before being in the initial requirement definition team, revison plan, MoD acquisition office, and finally in re...

Not much in the way of marshland in that particular conflict. Most of the troublesome SAM's were SA8/ SA6 in the valleys to stop terrain masking approaches.

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)

Certainly that wasn't the angle I got form someone in the RAF end of the program office during, concept, design, bidding, and build. The BAe A319 option was only on the table up to the P7 selection. We were the lead customer for that but LM sensibly decided that reopening the Electra line was gong t...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)

It was not the preferred option. BAe offered 2 possibilities following P7 cancellation, the higher risk A319 conversion or the 'lower risk' Nimrod 2000. The latter was selected on lower risk and cost grounds.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I was under the impression it was the best ARM in the world until withdrawal. This came from the guys who fired it and the USN who wanted to buy it. It was fired as a suppression missile in GW2 to keep the SA8 and ZSU23-4 offline while the TLAM's went in and also for direct attack in Kosovo. IIRC se...

Re: Apache Attack Helicopter (Army Air Corps)

I wonder if if would be technically possible to integrate a RF homer sensor into this in a bigger airframe ( Meteor). This would be an awesome SEAD weapon. I know they talked about Armiger but that is a dead program.
