Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Can anyone point out a timeline where the issues with Ajax must be solved or the programme is cancelled or is it a case of an indefinite one so that they can keep trying to fix the issues regardless of how long it takes?

Re: Ground Based Air Defence

It is the way western nations have looked at GBAD that is a joke no the systems involved. You are right in that western nations have relied too much on their air power having been lulled into a false sense of security over the decades they have been able to dominate the airspace above any conflict t...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Looks like the chances of the existing sanction on Iran being removed are fading rapidly and worse could follow. On the other hand, the West is going to need to provide Ukraine with an integrated GBAD system as a counter, to protect high value infrastructure locations. Whether we see Ukraine being g...

Re: French Armed Forces

Probably following the same logic, the USN did when they accepted the design for the Ford class, freeing space on the flight deck and improving visibility during air operations. Funding will be an issue, the CdG was supposed to be part of a two ship class and it was funded during the Cold War mainly...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

There would be a response, though I doubt it would be a nuclear one to a tactical device being used. Russia would also find its allies would also wobble to put it mildly, not wanting to be tarred by the same brush. There would also be ramification at home for Russia, as outside of Putin's inner circ...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

The Royal Marines used borrowed Polaris MRZR(D) to great effect during exercises state side recently and appear to very complimentary about the platform seeing it as the future. Where this leaves the Vikings is up for discussion but transferring them to the Army for use in difficult conditions by sa...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

Regardless of previous statements, it appears to me that Ajax is too big to be cancelled and so everything will be done above and below board to bring the platform into service. What actually will lead to the vehicles being accepted, minimum compliance followed by a further programme to bring vehicl...

That is going to end up being a pretty big boat, maybe similar in size to the USN's Kittyhawk class conventional carriers.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I think it may be a bit difficult to even to a Boxer Mission Module to house Sky Sabre given its size. IF we want an SPAA Mission Module for Boxer it would probably comprise of a Auto Cannon and/or MANPADS such as Starstreak.. It could incorporate a 360-degree radar in a similar way to what the US h...

the RAF wanted the E-7 and worked the story to meet the requirement. Wasn't the first nor will it be the last time such a thing happens.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I suppose it depends where the system is to operate. If it is to accompany front line units in combat with the opposition, a platform like Boxer could be needed to provide the mobility and protection needed, whereas if used further back, a MAN chassis would do the trick.

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)

It shouldn't be too difficult to create a Mission Module using the turret form Ajax if that was desired. That would incorporate many of the sensors that were to be carried by Ajax and using a spacious Mission Module would allow additional space to be used for additional systems if so desired. A simp...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Saying Ukraine cannot use US supplied weapons to strike at targets in Russia is a farsical limitation. Even more so when such declarations are made publicly. It give Russia a "Safe Haven", from which it can carry out operations. Whilst trying to prohibit attacks in non-military targets has...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

I get the impression that these day Littoral Response Group is just another name for an Amphibious Group. THe talked about MRSS also now seems to be linked to the replacement for the Bays and/or Albions, so the requirements may be similar now, who knows.

Re: Ground Based Air Defence

Interesting to hear about the S-500 SAM System. I wonder how many they may actually but. They have only bought a fraction of the S-400s they intended. However it should be a reasonable to good system when in service. With regards to Poland, don't they intend to actually order Sky Sabre themselves or...

Re: The war in Ukraine

It seems interesting that many of the nations who have offered GBAD systems are offering those made by other nations which they are willing to pay for. Most of those offered can be used near the front line for area defence including IRIS-T, NASAMS, Crotale etc. We seem to be offering to pay for addi...

On US urgings as it was adopting the 5.56mm round, NATO was persuaded to adopt a similar round. AS you pointed out they did just adopt the existing US round but held a competition to find the best 5.56 round that would be available as the SS109 won and was adopted as the new NATO standard though not...

I cannot see the Ukrainians officially sanctioning the use of a bomb on a civilian truck without the driver knowing about it. The idea of a third party seems more plausible.
