Re: RFA Fort Victoria

Not likely, she cannot transfer the Heavy Palletised Stores that the future SSS will be able to. This will limit the re-supply of stores to the QEC Carriers to a degree that will be unacceptable in the mid to long term.

Yes, but the other nations do not have the special "low friction" paint.

Nor does it do anything much for ASW in it's current under equipped state with insufficient numbers as well.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Perhaps the deal that the Treasury have in mind is to swap HMSQE & F35bs with cash adjustment, in exchange for the ex. HMS Hermes & some SHARs. Seems to be about the limit of our current crop of "Bean Counters".

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Perhaps they want to buy a 3rd Carrier and a QEC could be it. They have bought uk built carriers before, so just a faint possibility it could be built at Rosyth?

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Each (hopeful) Ship Builder would have to choose between buying & supplying new kit, or the cost of buying & refurbishing ex. RN kit. Surely you are not suggesting that the RN would have refurbished the kit removed from the T23s, when they did not know whether or not it would be used. The co...

Re: Merlin helicopters

That ship may indeed have sailed, but palletised "cargoes" can be transhipped (at sea if necessary) if there is the will and if the need to do so arises. The only way I can see the Osprey in FAA service is if they can reduce the requirement for Merlins on the QEC carriers. They will not re...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

I'm OK with most of this. However, I still think that the Albion replacements will be a pair of LHDs (circa 35k Tonnes) with maximum automation to reduce the manning requirements as far as is sensible.

Or hopefully to buy some MV22 Osprey to perform the ASAC role, making more Merlins available for ASW.

An ever present danger that strategically illiterate politicians will allow (or want) this to happen. So I am afraid could not bring myself to "like" the previous post.

All power to their elbow. Who knows, they may eventually regain the competence to build SSKs as well. Sorry, possibly a bit of a crossover for this topic!

Only one of the many examples of political incompetence demonstrated by that government. I'm only surprised that they did not rename one of the great offices of state as the Secretary of State for ***********ness.

Re: Future Littoral Strike Ships

Simplistic perhaps, but how about using a Bay class as the basis with the minimum alterations required (acquiring 2 x additional "Bays" of course).
