Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate

It seems to me that nothing good can't be expected fot the RN and HM AF in general without increasing the level of defence spending above 2%.

Without that, we can beat the dead horse as much as we want- but the RN will continue to deteriorate in every possible aspect... ;)

Re: Type 23 Frigate (Duke Class) (RN)

If RN do not have man power to operate 1-2 frigates, which I think is the current status, you lose almost nothing by losing 1-2 frigate hulls. Depending on the upgrade cost, if you stop 1-2 units' upgrade, you can upgrade 4-8 Merlin HM.1 to HM.2 standard in place. Which is better? This is my commen...

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN)

The 76 is better than Phalanx for sure. Greater lethality, greater accuracy in CIWS use with guided ammo, greater interception range which keeps more hot missile fragments away from your ship in case of successful interception of the incoming missile. The US have developed RAM and tend to mix Phala...

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN)

A question: So, in comparison with the Horizon-class ( France & Italy ) how do the Type 45 fare? Better radar; same missiles and number of VLS; less CIWS coverage (3x 76mm on the italian ones, with guided ammunition, give formidable cover well beyond the Phalanx's reach; the french has only 2 7...

Re: RFA Diligence

It's not that they tried to pay off and old ship a few years early, that the RFA probably can't crew anymore, with no likely replacement that really grinds my gears. It's that they tried to sneak her out of service without anyone noticing. Speaks volumes about the MoD's approach to transparency doe...

Re: Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)

Meh, that is only what the challenger is now I beg to differ. The more nations that jump on the Eurotank bandwagon, the more of a horror show it will become. Hell, between the UK, France and Germany alone i doubt we could come up with a realistically achievable design that meets everyone's requirem...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate

We'll have wait and see how well this government treats defence befor we start wishing for more platforms. If the target price of 300m is achieved it would make an increase feasible. Did I also see time talk of pacific operations? That is something that certainly couldn't be possible without an inc...

Aid has got to be the first budget to be cut if cuts required. Like, immediately and without discussions. Perhaps with Cameron done the 0.7% of GDP nonsense can be killed off . Far too smard decision for the UK politicians... ;) If Corbyn becomes the PM you can expect aid will be 7%, not 0,7%... :l...
