Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I hope the trials go well as for me it is platforms like Hero and camcopter that will take ships like the B2 Rivers and MHC to the next level. The ability to put 2 or 3 Hero's in a 20 ft container and put them on a B2 River would give it a better capability when working outside UK waters on tasks li...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

It dose say on the PDF under C&C link in with a digital fire control system. Could this mean that the CMS / FCS on the LCS was at fault and not the gun or is it the gun. also if there is a problem with the gun why do they keep buying them?

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Or like this? If you compare Rive B2 and Khareef, it is pretty much, 10 m extension amidship + 1 m higher deck in hull. Other all parameters are very similar. Then, if Khareef-heavy is to be used, another 5 m amidship for endurance, 5 m astern for Merlin capable flight deck and CAPTAS-2 FFBNW, and ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

good question for me it is about making it as simple as possible so after having a think about it. I think I would have gone for something like add 3 meter section to allow the hangar to be made bigger to take a Merlin and then add a 8 meter quarterdeck with a covered garage extending 8 meters under...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

When we look at a war fighting role if these 3 heavy Corvettes had been built and armed as I would have liked. They could of carried out a close carrier escort role using a mix of their 57mm - Phalanx and CAMM to mop up anything that might get passed the Type 45's

Re: Ocean Class Helicopter Carrier (LPH) (1998-2018) (ex RN)

the Australians already have the 2 Canberra class ships so no need for Ocean but I am sure a lot of Navies would have wanted her at that price

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The 5 B2 Rivers will cost 635 million including spares and support. With this in mind BAE / MOD / HMG knowing that TOBA was more and more likely should have had a better plan. I think BAE should of had a simpler version of Leander already in the box. A 110 meter Khareef heavy Corvette with a Merlin ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think the second batch of 3 will be ordered in 2022 in and around the time they start Belfast. As for the 63 billion over the 10 years 2016-2026 we know HMG has earmarked 31 billion for the capital cost of the SSBN program and has put aside 10 billion in contingency but how much of this will be sp...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think it is fair to say that the RN and Babcock know that the Absalon class would make a better GP platform. However what they also know is that if 5 Absalon's come on line the 2 Albions would be sold off before the second hull hit the water. The IH offers 2 big things 1st NATO call them a frigate...

Re: Scimitar Class Fast Patrol Vessels (RN)

as said the design work is done and if you oped for the 20mm off the river B1 I agree it is a push but with the need for 96 hours at sea and sea state 7 I feel we need something more than a 30m boat with 11 crew

Re: Scimitar Class Fast Patrol Vessels (RN)

2 or 3 56m Vita's fitted with a 30mm and a Scanter 4100 radar would be nice it could allow for one to take a trip into the Western Med as needed on migrant SAR duties Looks like something like your Vita proposal could be in with a real chance. image.jpg Your 30mm version is probably more ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

What a great photo, a picture tells a thousand words. Can anyone tell me why the Iver Huitfeldt hanger would be preferable to the Absalon version? It's obviously smaller, lacks the enormous versatility of the double hanger design and it actually looks like it's more expensive to build. I understand...

Re: Wave Class Tanker (RFA)

if the Wave class is really not needed at this time for it core role would it not be better to use the 2 of them on AP-N with the ships doing 6 months deployments and 2 crews doing 3 months on 3 months off I feel we must be able to find 160 men and women who are looking to leave the RN and would lik...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

A few things around export of UK warships. Firstly what is needed for export to have a chance ? And what can be done ? For me we need to look at something like fighter exports which could hold the key in as much as what do countries look for when buying a new aircraft and for me it is ( is this airc...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

IH undertook FOST as a Frigate because that was what she was there to do she was not there for 2 weeks to take the test for a rowing boat really. The Danish built a new class of Frigate to a different set of standards and wanted to test them under one of the toughest at sea tests in the world which ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

yes all class of ship in the RN undertake FOST but at levels inline with task. what I am getting at is the IH undertook the FOST as a frigate and that set of tests applied and to this end RN have a report on how the ship fights and on its level of damage control. So for me the important part is that...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

For me Arrowhead 140 is what I would like to see win. I do agree some small changes would be nice and I have some questions as well First I would like to see a 9 cell ExLS for 36 CAMM between the bridge and main gun where the second gun was next i agree that the weapons deck is removed and a mission...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

First of all I would turn this on its head from why the Iver Huitfeldt class is so cheap to why Leander cost so much. Leander is a stretched Khareef class this class was built for 400 million or 133.5 million per ship and it has Smart S 3D radar TACTICOS CMS 1 x 76mm 2 x 30mm 8 x Exocet 12 x Mica So...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think its design is a long way from the norm and as so is not really under stood. Coming back to the FOST this is were the UK may have a bit more faith in the design over others with little or no insight to the design. It will go a long way that the RN already has a full report into its war fighti...
