Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)

As said I think with in the next 20 year our only hope of attack subs is off the self SSK's built over seas and to this end I would go for 4 to 5 type 214 as it is operated by a number of NATO countries and South Korea maybe we could have 3 built in Germany and 2 built in South Korea

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

what I am saying is HMG need to change there mind set before we see anymore type 26's and if we were to build more this would have an affect on the type 45 replacement with possible gaps between the first type 45 going out of service and it replacement coming in it should be noted that the type 31 b...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I agree with this if anything with the mind set of the UK HMG the RN would end up with more type 31's as said in the past time is marching on and the window for type 45 replacement is starting to open in terms of planning and build time table if we are not to have any gaps

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)

I feel an off the self buy of 4 type 214 would be the best option right now these boats would be good for the next 20 years and would work well for SSBN cover in home waters and patrols in the North sea and Med freeing up the Astute's for longer patrols globally this would also allow the UK time to ...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

For me with the number of Merlin's in the fleet all frigate decks should be able to land and refuel them as a base line even if they can not hangar them

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Arrowhead 120 states it has a Merlin capable flight deck and hangar for SH-60 NH-90 if type 31 is to be a true export success these should be a base line for this part of the ships capability. The sales chap seemed to have little idea for how this ship could be used it was almost like you can throw ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

At 13000 t and with that armament I would say the type 055 is more a heavy cruiser than a destroyer

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

As said Leander looks to be stretched Khareef however there is 18 meters being added across all decks and this may mean part of the redesign covers the engine room this could make seance as it would give more flexibility in engine type for export something the Arrowhead design has hinted at on the B...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I agree with this and I also feel the Batch 2 Rivers will work well in western and central Med as part of migrant rescue and patrol mission. I would also class type 31 as a global patrol frigate

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)

If the RN want more attack subs in the next 25-30 years they will need to 1)buy them over seas or 2) build SSK's however were we would build a limited run of SSK I don't know again it would be cheaper to buy 4 type 214's off the shelf

Foresight is a big ask, and there "will be" more than 5 of them
... so a couple more?

however if HMG and MOD see it and say it enough they might start to use some of it

Maybe a Battle Class with HMS Hogue as the first of class or an Admiral Class with Hardy, Hawke or Howe?

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

what is going on here is the RN trying hang on to the 8 type 26's and not lose any more of them to the type 31 I feel in the back ground type 31 will be more capable than people think. Arrow head 120 has room built in for a good armament fit but this is yet another case of not getting the best out a...
