Some steps need to be taken, otherwise we'll never be able to compete with the Yanks (in any of our own competitions)...

You know you've got a big carrier, when even an Osprey looks small on deck. 8-)

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

So is replacement a better option than upgrade? Not a tank person, but was just reading on wiki (no laughing in the back) that the Septic's have looked at putting MTU 883's in the M1. As much as my national pride wants to keep CR2 (with every upgrade it needs), would it be better just to replace it ...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

To be fair, that could be said for everything the MoD buys ;)

But to be honest, I do think that MoD should only pay unit price and maintenance - Development (R&D) cost's should be someone else's problem...

Imagine how small a SHAR would look on that deck... A pilot would spend half the day trying to remember were he/she had parked

Not, "jet crashes, pilot safe",

Re: TSR-2 (Cancelled Project)

Whilst the investment of funds was huge for the TSR-2, it was way ahead of anything else either in service or in development at the time. IF we had been more positive in the management of the programme without the mixed signals form Government it could have been a major success, both for the RAF an...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

I think that is being a bit unfair on the Army. Yes their plans are confused but they are being asked to de more than at any other time with far less resources, funding is not secured to any extent to allow old and obsolete equipment to be replaced or even effectively modernised. The programmes tha...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

Good to hear, I am curious about why the (quite) drastic change and how they can afford the extra airframes.

Gives me hope that we'll change our minds about only getting 48 ;)

I just had the (wrong) impression that they were going to play it safe - get well clear in case it turned, then return to help out our cousins where ever it was needed.

Re: Boeing E-3D Sentry AEW.1 (AWACS) (RAF)

Wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) to just add a boom to E7 than to get all the electrical bits and throw them at an A330 and see what works?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

When was the last time we didn't help out those in need? Even the ones we don't really like!?!

Anyway, it'll be another good test of QE and her crew if help is needed.
