Re: Airbus A330 Voyager (MRTT) (RAF)

Can anyone advise what happens if we ever need the 5 which are leased out to thecommerical sector? How soon can we get them back and does that mean we would fly them to Afghanistan (or wherever) in Thomas Cook colours? What about the military kit - comms, DAS, which presumably aren't fitted while t...

Yes the SMLE was as controversial when it entered service. But for the right reasons and it did prove to be a world stopper unlike the SA80.

The SA80 was a world stopper... Everyone in the world stopped and asked "really?"

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options

This would qualify as a "foreign military sales" wouldn't it? So maybe the septic's could massage the price, like they do to the Israelis...

And the sooner the better, really.

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options

If P-8 was acquired but AAs was not exportable, maybe the Sentinel's radar could be modified to a similar configuration? With Raytheon making both I'm sure they would be able to help (for the right price).

I've read rumours of an L86 A3, with DD rails etc.

Does it exist or is it another load of 'net botox?

Re: Merlin helicopters

Good to see the project pushing forwards, shame there couldn't be a dedicated force - the bag install on the commando did look quite good.

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options

As far as a probe and drogue system on P8, I very much doubt whether any work has been done on that score, if they are only just testing the boom system on it. In any case why would they, the US isn't going to use it , so if that is wanted by the UK then we are going to have to stump up the cash, a...

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options

A330 at least uses Rolls Royce engines. Ideally I would like to see the MPA and AEW based on an A330 for some massive commonality points! P8 should be a useful multi-role aircraft however. You don't think a twin aisle a/c a bit over sized for the job? P-8 is really the only way to go, and (as alrea...
