Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Short of a total economic collapse in the next few years, I really can't see this project not going forward after 2025, to full production. There is just no way that this country will leave the projected $250-$300bn export market for 6th Gen Fighters, to the French & Germans. That is just not g...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

Who knows, but it mentions rotating crews and compaeisons to the forward deployed T23 and the FI B2, so sounds like it'll be forward based there

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Moving over here from the Type 31 thread Right now for me all Type 31 needs is a HMS and a 8 cell MK-41 VLS allowing the class to carry up to 32 CAMM or a Mix of CAMM and Spear-3 something like 20 x CAMM and 12 Spear-3 would be a good fit for its task Ok, but not going to happen. Realistically the ...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Perhaps they are saying that other European countries will be hesitant to signing up for the Franco/German fighter right now if there is a credible competitor. Why not wait and make the decision later after seeing which is the better deal? Don't forget Tempest has two partners within the EEC so has...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Are people seriously suggesting here that T26 with its 48 CAMM and Artisan is not able to provide AAW coverage for itself and close consorts? Even if the range is somewhat limited, 48 munitions vs as few as 16-24 for many other first tier escorts (outside of the US, China and Russia, at least)...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Very interesting. Thanks. Still some questions about whether it will have a hull mounted sonar or not, and if they will receive ASM later in life (perhaps the 5 interim sets might be handed down after the T23's retire). On the Floreal point, the T31 will be large enough to receive significant upgra...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

I've been out of town and just got back yesterday and sorting through a stack of mail to find the latest copy of Warship World. It contains a nice article by by Richard Scott on the Type 31 and, given the publishing date of the magazine, was written soon after the contract was announced. Anyhow a c...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

So, the first T31 will be in service at the same year the 1st T26 will commission. 1st of class from both coming in at the same time (how many T23s will have fallen off by then?), but the other 4 El Cheapos will follow imminently, whereas the Rolls Royces are being hand made (cash trip-fed)? - 2028...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Maybe I am optimistic but I do think we will get a second batch of T31 ( mainly because they will be cheaper than the T26 or T45 replacements ) with a slightly better spec, but still will not make up for the loss of the 2010 cuts..T22 etc   At the expense of the T45 replacements and/or ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I'm not worried about the QE, the FSS or any other new ship build programmes. They are totemic, and Boris has sounded off about wanting to increase ship manufacturing in the UK. I'm not worried too much about the RAF either, but I'm more about the Army head count and a number it's programmes. Hopefu...
