Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

It'll come down to cost though. Exactly, otherwise the Royal Navy would simply be getting a fleet of 13 Type 26 frigates. Back in time the government (labour I think) said we cannot afford the last two T45 Numbers 7 &8. And said instead we canceĺ these and bring forward the T26 ships earlier. T...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Would be great to see a Harrier drop on board from Italy or the USMC. In many ways it would be good. I think the scale of QE with a Harrier on board would be an interesting view. But at the same time it would ignite the entire 'should have retained Harrier' argument and 'we could have had an operat...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Surely the the bottom line is that the BAe CMS system is only a uk taxpayers system which does not compete with the rest world's systems. Compared with the American ,swedish saab (9LV),french(Tacticos) all have sold worldwide and employed on more ships then the BAe cms. I suspect we the taxpayers ar...

Re: Boeing E-7 Wedgetail (RAF)

I must admit that I have a small hope that both the P-8 and E-7 programmes have, in the end, similarities with hoe the RAF purchased the C-17 regarding numbers. That is to say over time the respective fleets are increased by an aircraft here and an aircraft there when funding permits. This may allo...

Not really the supplier has prove the escape system works before it is accept by the customer,so all the costs are already budget forby the supplier.
It only costs the customer after the system is accepted and is used let say for training and or proven after x period in service.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

With this radar the carrier can detect with a range tested at 2000 miles and direct anti-ballistic missiles from allied escort warships and or from a T26 fitted with the pac3 missiles in the mk41 silos. Or even land base Japanese anti-ballistic missiles. You mean SM-3? Pac-3 isn't Mk41 enabled, I d...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

If the carriers are goingt to be deployed in the gulf and or south China sea area .I think it would only to be prudent to update the long radar s1850 smartL radar to the lasest anti-ballistic radar that Thales have supplied to the Dutch navy, the Smart L MM/N Radar. With this radar the carrier can d...

Adding AAMs to a MPA like we did in the Falklands was only designed to counter the oppositions MPAs if they ever met up. If a SU-27 or SU-30 wants to shoot down a MPA it will if the target is within range. Saying that shooting down a USN P-8 in international airspace is somekthing that cannot be sp...

Re: Boeing Poseidon MRA Mk.1 (Maritime Reconnaissance Attack) (RAF)

We need to add air to air missiles to our own planes ,just like the NIMROD mk2 during the Falklands.
It seems the Russians have said a P8 was controlling drones which attcak thier air base in Syria.
Cute a shooting down of a P8 by the Syrians (Russians) on the cards

To be able to deliver in the same timeframe, SAAB basically need to get started on integrating their systems on an A330 now. If reports are true, and and order is placed for 6 aircraft. I thought a contact to Babcocks to update 36 systems to block1B baseline 1 a few years back, with the T26 we would need at least 16 more to cover. So over all we should be having just over 25 sets plus spares to cover the the ships that need it Plus all of these will be updated to latest baseline2 w...

Are not the Wildcats used by the RM pooled from the army AH1 helicopters, as FAA Wildcats are HMA2 version s with seaspey radar already fitted. Likely pooled, 847 NAS has ~6 AH1s. If they want radar and weapons, easiest way is conversion to HMA2, it gives you both, you then just need to introduce B...
