The pump jet used from Ohio onwards is British technology - been used since the T boats, the US have only just adopted it Ultra Electronics supply much of the clever / classified stuff Every pump-jet used on US submarines since Seawolf in the mid-80s (their first to use pump-jets) has been designed...

It does when you consider there are US components in British reactors. Rolls-Royce seems pretty sure so I daresay they have the right of it. There's no evidence of any US components in British nuclear reactors. Where are you getting this from? https://twitter.com/AlexLuck9/status/163552096937587916...

Re: SSN(R) Future Astute Replacement (2040s) (RN) [News Only]

This would be the most serious change in direction under this government (increase rather than cuts). Even if you said the 20 in total, that means 4 would be Dreadnought plus another 16 as attack subs, that still more than double what we have now. I mean Wallace did say that maybe we needed...

There is a suggestion that the Australians may proceed with the U.K. SSN design. https://www.iiss.org/blogs/military-balance/2023/01/aukus-and-the-nuclear-reaction The most interesting part of that article from a UK perspective is surely this: "Among the ‘straws in the wind’ are the UK’s ambit...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

I'm not so pessimistic on Sweden dropping out of the Tempest programme. They will certainly be aware of the need to progress aviation technology as well as the immediate threat of Russia - they did just join NATO after all. I think the best way to credibly maintain their military aviation capability...

Nonetheless, a new build hall in Govan would be great. But only if BAE pays for it out of their pocket. With new competition from Rosyth, they need to keep the Type 26 on schedule. I still question why they put a PESA Artisan on a billion-pound Type 26 and putting AESA NS110 on Type 31. How much of...

I presume we're going to see an uplift in military budgets due to the Ukraine/Russian conflict. So if Tempest was under funded before, I'm also presuming it won't be for much longer. There are two things I'll say to this given where we are at the moment: - Firstly, the money provided for the tempes...
