Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Factual errors aside tis a great video, question for the wiser souls amongst you, when (if ever!?) will they fit the 30mm DS30M Cannons, I can see the phalanx but nothing else on the ship.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I read many months ago she was to have a frigate escort for the trip but can find no recent reference to this. Is she sailing solo?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Rambo - in the MOD new year spin piece just published it references sea trials for QE in the 'Summer' not the Spring as expected. Sounds like something has indeed slipped.

Re: Merlin helicopters

In a letter I received from Harriett Baldwin Under Secretary and Procurement Minister in my persistent efforts to get some clarification on the Merlin saga she confirms 'the intention is to have four NAS. 814 will fulfil the Frigate Flight delivery role and will be merged with 829.' So its bye bye 8...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Thank you for some timely perspective Gabriele. Yes there is some uncertainty but we need to lose the hysteria and panic. There will be implications for sure but more likely than not on a fairly small scale. We will have the carriers!. Further down the line Indyref 2 has the potential to cause a muc...

Re: Merlin helicopters

Amen to that. It's so blindingly obvious that 30 is just not enough. Oddly I just wonder with Apache work heading stateside will the decision to upgrade the orphan eight, or whatever is left of them, be one more intended to sustain uk jobs rather than for any of the logic stated above. And what abou...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

At some point post 2023 both squadrons will have to collectively embark to fully work up the high intensity aspect of carrier strike. As for the routine carrier deployments I am assuming 617 snd 809 will change places regularly to ensure carrier qualifications are maintained?

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

Very sad if that is indeed the case. An earlier article from Janes had suggested 809 would initially be reformed to support F35 carrier trials in 2018. I had assumed this would initially be as a small test unit migrating to a full operational squadron later in the lighting force build up. Although t...
