Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Does anyone know (probably not) if SRVL will be practiced during this deployment?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

After asking McTaggart Scott directly nearly 10 years ago and getting nowhere. I finally found out how they transported the aircraft lifts from the south of Edinburgh to Rosyth.......
They didn’t!!!
Babcock made them under license in Rosyth for McTaggart Scotts. I can see why they were cagey now.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I feel the RAF maybe getting their WE177’s back as well or whatever modern incarnation it takes. I’ve always felt with no evidence whatsoever, that they’re kicking about somewhere. Not. Happening. Are you trolling or pissed? Neither like I said just what I feel. Absolutely no disrespect to t...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Basic rule of thumb to sit at the top table of the UN. 1. Must be a nuclear power with ICBM capability. 2. Must have the conventional deterrent... carriers 3. Must have SSN’s. Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I’m still holding out hope that cuts don’t hold with the Brexit global Britain power house message. Plus I don’t trust any reporting from the MSM.
More than likely this is a row about how to shake up the MOD than anything else IMO.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

The defence minister is a cavalry man. Remember John Nott anyone? Plus Dominic Cummings is on record saying they are a waste of money.
The only positive is that given the Brexit pomp from the Gov, it’s highly unlikely there will be defence cuts post Brexit.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

PhillyJ have you heard any rumours about PWLS being sold to the Indian navy? I heard there was a contingent onboard recently and they were asking all sorts of questions. I wonder if they might be trying to build their own as well.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I don’t know to be honest my military experience was running about the Pentlands with an A1 SA80 as a very young 15 yo baby part time pongo. I think it might be something to do with ground start up prior engine spool up. I think I’m right in saying that F-Jets don’t have an APU (Auxiliary power unit...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Did a bit of digging with regards to the “US personnel only” areas on HMS POW and got this very interesting reply....

The ground power supply for the F35 has US components that they are keen to keep a tight grip on. Whilst on QNLZ, the spaces were restricted to security cleared personnel only.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Any word on SRVL for the latest deployment? Surely with the amount of Daves they had on board, they must have tried something. I’ve seen no video or reports about it.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

5. Because the nearest pubs and chippy are closer to Victory Jetty than they are to Princess Royal Jetty. This is more likely to be the main reason for the crew! There is another point which is why my nipper had to forgo his leave and rush back last night to be on board for the cold move ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Thanks for the replies, my naivety, of course they’ll play it safe to start with and as per strict parameters. A question I’ve long thought about and will probably never know due to OPSEC reasons, is can a fully laden (fuel & weapons) F35B take off from the deck of the QE class? If so I would im...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I take it from episode 3, SRVL is a tricky one. Or perhaps artistic licence from the director. Is it the case that SRVL can only be performed in calm seas/weather or were they playing it cautious? If anybody can throw some light on this, it would be good. I just hope it’s not a red hearing. I Just f...
