Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Well it's all gone dark from my 'contact' which either means he is in his mess where the signal is shocking, they are all being told to keep schtumm, or he never made it back from Edinburgh yesterday after his last run ashore for a while!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I wonder whether R09 will prove faster than R08 whilst on her Sea Trials? :D PoW has a 29.2 knot target to beat, achieved by QE on 15th August 2017, south of the Isle of Wight. Well I have it on good authority that one of the modifications to PWLS was to secretly build opening ports to allow all AB...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Well I know that PWLS is supposed to be alongside for December, and I'm pretty sure QNLZ is due back by then. I'm definitely going to get a harbour tour when they are both in. Local radio news is confirming that PWLS will be in Pompey at some point in December, quoting RN announcement but nothing t...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Hi all, first post. Fife Today reporting HMS Prince of Wales to sail this Friday or Saturday weather permitting. Sorry don't know how to link to article. I've been told that it was more likely to be the 18th, but the situation is 'fluid' to say the least! 8-) hmm, reckon my 'source' also suggested ...

haha, it certainly is! I was told it will not be the 13th, but as I said it seems to fluctuate between a few dates and changes from day to day. 8-)

Nice to hear from you CJ! After watching that show it does seem like the F35B's they are using need a FBH to help with the login process!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Didn't Harriers used to land on Carriers while in Harbour? Certainly they did when the air wings were landed on in Portsmouth for the Falklands, on both Hermes and Invincible, or was that a one off as a show of force for Departure? Not that I can remember, the Falklands was for show of force I gues...

On Twitter, basin trials have been started, my lad was aboard armed with an axe and watching a bloody big rope whilst this was happening!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

The last thing we would want to do is send the QE anywhere near someone who might try to put holes in her especially the Gulf. A Squadron of Typhoons would be far more use. Apparently there were 2 Wildcats (armed with 50 cal guns and other goodies) based in the area but they were shipped back home ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Went round the harbour yesterday with my lad as he is on leave at the moment and there is a Sea Harrier on HMS QE just beside the ramp! Apparently it's for Family Day which is over this coming weekend, I couldn't get a good shot of it unfortunately. :(

But they did go on to report that 'This issue is also unlikely to prevent the ship from sailing later this year for the Westlant19 deployment when she will carry out further developmental test flying with UK-owned F-35 Jets.' I guess the following shows the power of high pressure water being release...

I guess that does constitute a failure, although the crew would have got extra training in dealing with a potential flood incident I guess! 8-)

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Does anyone have any news on how the POW is getting on? All good from what my Lad tells me (or is allowed to!) I think they are due to go on board sometime in August and I assume sea trials are still set for Sept. He cannot wait to get back home, I think he has used up all of what Rosyth and Caledo...

“It's fair to say that Phalanx hasn't had too much of an opportunity to engage real targets in its service life. It's reputation in its early days wasn't great for reliability. Successive improvements have addressed that, but at the same time the threat has improved as well to the point at which gu...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Well according to @TugmasterRob, who just helped tow in an Utah class SSBN to Faslane (USS Alaska), he will be back at Pompey in a couple of weeks for when HMS QE wants to come back in. I assumed she would be off for WESTLANT19 once she'd completed FOST from where she was. Still, it will be good to ...

Can't get over how small those Marlins look on the big deck in the first 2 photos.... Indeed, we have now gone from catching Cod etc to Marlins! Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

It seems HMS QE is due in Pompey around 17:30 tomorrow, might well pop down to see her as the view from the Porchester A27 shore road has been quite bereft without her on my ride in to work these past weeks!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

According to the Daily Mail Captain Nick is to command the QE on her return to Pompey, even though he has been publicly humiliated. And again that voyage starts today? HMS QE's twiter feed has a short video of them filling the dry dock back up with water, but no official leave date/time. https://tw...
