Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Can't get over how small those Marlins look on the big deck in the first 2 photos.... Indeed, we have now gone from catching Cod etc to Marlins! Seriously though, when I saw her with a Wokka on board it was quite surprising how small they looked on deck, I guess only the fortunate few who have been...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

It seems HMS QE is due in Pompey around 17:30 tomorrow, might well pop down to see her as the view from the Porchester A27 shore road has been quite bereft without her on my ride in to work these past weeks!

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

According to the Daily Mail Captain Nick is to command the QE on her return to Pompey, even though he has been publicly humiliated. And again that voyage starts today? HMS QE's twiter feed has a short video of them filling the dry dock back up with water, but no official leave date/time. https://tw...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Does seem a bit OTT but I guess Officers are expected to be squeaky clean, perhaps there is more to this that might come out later. Just imagine if this was the way our MP's were dealt with, didn't we have one voting in parliament recently wearing an electronic tag after being jailed for perverting ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Well that’s the QEs at risk again long with the T26 numbers now that Williams has been sacked Well perhaps with Penny Mordaunt being elevated to Defence Secretary, who I think is still a Navy Reservist and current Pompey MP, maybe not as bad as it could have been...the RAF may be feeling a bit wobb...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

It’s also similar with other measurements of the class with seeing both 280m and 284m for length and 70m and 73m for beam. Now I know these are only small difference and I might be just a niggle of mine but it’d be nice to know the true measurements. I'll get my Son to source a tape measure a...

It seems QE has arrived in Rosyth and passed under the bridges, just need to shoehorn her in to the basin now I guess! Loads of official tweet videos but I have no idea how to paste them here so they show up. https://twitter.com/HMSQNLZ https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/defence/hms-queen-elizabeth-r...

...have a look at this document http://woottonbridgeiow.org.uk/decca-legacy/chapter10.php#10.12 Cheers for that, very interesting read even if I didn't understand all of the jargon. As I've lived in the Pompey area all my life it brings back memories of all the Radar installations upon the top of P...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

It seems HMS POW has been testing her emergency escape system, I'm just trying to find out if my nipper got to have a 'slide' or if it was just a test of the equipment and not the process. 8-)

Sqn engineering personnel (FAA, RAF, USMC) do that.
Cheers Downsizer, I did wonder who did the maintenance but had no clue as you could probably tell from my 'vague/lazy' post.

(are they still called ground crew ion a carrier?)
Aircraft Handler is the closest to ground crew in the FAA I guess, obviously they have other roles assigned such as Air controllers and Air engineers.

For goodness sake do not let any DM or Scum journalists see her being called 'Queenie', they'd soon jump on it and report back that the crew have nicknamed her that alongside 'Big Lizzie'!

Good luck to your son in his new career. Hope he does well and has some stories to tell in future years. Cheers. I watched her come in from aboard HMS Warrior in the Historic Dockyard for a change, was a different perspective that's for sure. My Son was stood in his Nbr1's port side for 5 hours to welcome her home, at last he is earning his pay! 8-)

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Unfortunately D lock mods and modifications to northern jetty to create a QE dock have vanished since last year... guess there is not a penny for that. Possibly, although the model is not 100% accurate as it has HMS Victory with all 3 of here main masts at full height, not sure if that will ever ha...

Never noticed that before but it looks like there is one of the 'big boards' in the hangar at the end as well. Probably a couple more in there as well for visibility, makes sense..
Surely they are for film nights!
